Nashville Mother Arrested After Allegedly Shooting 16-Year-Old Daughter During Heated Argument

NASHVILLE, TN – A shocking act of domestic violence has rattled a quiet neighborhood in Nashville after a 39-year-old mother, Chantell Alen, was arrested for allegedly shooting her 16-year-old daughter during an intense early-morning argument.

The incident unfolded at their home on Susannah Drive in the early hours of Wednesday morning, July 10, 2025. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, what began as a verbal disagreement escalated into violence shortly after 3:20 a.m.

A Frightening Sequence of Events

Authorities say the teen, in an effort to remove herself from the conflict, attempted to lock herself inside her bedroom. That’s when her mother, Chantell Alen, reportedly fired a handgun through the closed door, striking her daughter in the left hand.

Despite her injury, the teenager was able to flee the apartment and was transported to Centennial Medical Center by a private vehicle. Thankfully, she is expected to recover from her wounds.

Police Response and Arrest

When officers arrived at the residence, they found Alen intoxicated and uncooperative. After assessing the scene and collecting statements, she was taken into custody without further incident.

Alen now faces multiple felony charges, including:

  • Aggravated Child Abuse
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated

She is currently being held on a $105,000 bond at the Metro Jail.

A Community in Shock

Neighbors along Susannah Drive expressed disbelief and sadness following the arrest.

“I’ve seen that girl playing outside before. She seemed sweet and quiet. I can’t believe something like this happened just down the street,” said one resident.

The incident has once again raised urgent questions about domestic gun violence, mental health, and the presence of firearms in volatile households.

Child Protective Services Involved

Given the severity of the allegations, Tennessee Department of Children’s Services has been notified and is involved in the case. The teen is reportedly staying with other family members while the investigation continues.

What Comes Next

Chantell Alen is expected to appear in court later this week to face the charges formally. In the meantime, detectives are continuing to gather evidence and conduct interviews.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact Metro Nashville Police or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
