St. Thomas | 1944 – 2025
It is with deep sorrow and reverence that we announce the passing of James A. Myers Sr., who departed this life on April 20, 2025, at the age of 80. Born and raised in the vibrant community of St. Thomas, James lived a life marked by integrity, hard work, and deep devotion to family and community.
From an early age, James distinguished himself through his intelligence and determination. His academic excellence culminated in his being named valedictorian of his high school graduating class—a distinction that stood as a testament to his lifelong commitment to excellence and personal growth. He carried that same sense of discipline and pride into every chapter of his life.
James was well known in the community not only for his bright mind, but also for his hands-on skill and work ethic. He spent many years working as a mechanic, a trade through which he earned the respect and trust of countless customers and neighbors. His ability to diagnose and fix engines was more than a job; it was a craft, one he pursued with meticulous care and pride. Later, he became a taxi driver, building strong relationships with those he served daily. Through both professions, he touched the lives of many across St. Thomas—not just through his services, but through his warmth, dependability, and ever-ready smile.
Above all else, James was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life and the source of his greatest pride. His legacy is carried on through them, and through the countless memories he helped create. To his extended family and many friends, he was a guiding light—generous with his time, wise with his words, and ever steady in times of need.
James’s life will be honored and celebrated through a series of home-going services. A viewing will be held on May 6, 2025, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service on May 7, 2025, at Wesley Methodist Church. These gatherings will serve not only as a time of mourning but as a celebration of the rich and meaningful life James lived.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we offer our deepest sympathies to the Myers family. During this time of mourning, may they find comfort in the love of those around them and in the lasting impact James has made on the hearts of so many. His memory will live on in the stories told, the lessons shared, and the love that continues to surround his name.
Rest in peace, James A. Myers Sr. Your journey on Earth has ended, but your spirit remains alive in all those who had the privilege of knowing you.
