Three Lives Lost in Tragic Platte River Plane Crash: Community Mourns the Loss of Daniel Williams, Jeff Bittinger, and Randy Amrein
On the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025, a devastating plane crash occurred over the Platte River just south of Fremont, Nebraska, claiming the lives of three men and leaving the local community in mourning.
The victims have been identified as Daniel Williams, 43, of Moundridge, Kansas; Jeff Bittinger, 50; and Randy Amrein, 48, both of Fremont, Nebraska.
The single-engine Cessna 180 was flying along the Platte River when it crashed into the water at approximately 8:15 p.m. local time. Emergency crews, including the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont Police and Fire Departments, and other agencies, responded swiftly, utilizing airboats and drones in the search and recovery operations.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have taken over the investigation, with NTSB investigators examining the crash site and the aircraft wreckage.
