Victim Identified in Bedford Avenue Homicide
Lynchburg, VA – The victim in the May 6, 2025, incident on Bedford Avenue has been identified as 25-year-old Zaykeese Amarius Brown, a resident of Lynchburg. The Lynchburg Police Department delayed releasing the victim’s name until his family was properly notified, in order to show the appropriate respect for their grief.

Malicious Wounding Results in Death of Lynchburg Resident
Lynchburg, VA – At approximately 6:40 p.m. on May 6, 2025, the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) responded to a report of a malicious wounding in the 2000 block of Bedford Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered multiple individuals performing life-saving measures on a 25-year-old male victim who had suffered a chest wound, suspected to have been caused by a gunshot. Despite the best efforts of those at the scene, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lynchburg General Hospital.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the victim, Zaykeese Amarius Brown, had been at his residence, engaging in an online video game chat with friends. At one point, he suddenly ceased communication, prompting his friends to go to his home to check on him. Upon finding him injured, the friends immediately called 911, and were instructed by dispatchers to perform life-saving procedures. These efforts continued until the arrival of the Lynchburg Police Department and the Lynchburg Fire Department.
