The crash, which occurred around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Willard Avenue and Greenlawn Avenue, also claimed the lives of her mother, Florinda Tineo, and her aunt, Jeannette Tineo .​

According to Newington police, the collision involved three vehicles and resulted in four fatalities at the scene. A fifth individual sustained minor injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Squad .​

​The Umpqua Community College (UCC) community is mourning the tragic loss of head softball coach Jami Lea Strinz, 46, of Roseburg, Oregon, who died following a devastating vehicle collision on April 18, 2025. The accident occurred on Highway 42 in Coos County as the UCC softball team was returning from a game in Coos Bay.​

According to Oregon State Police, a westbound Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 32-year-old Johnathan James Dowdy of Coos Bay, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the eastbound Chevrolet Express bus operated by Coach Strinz. The bus was carrying 10 members of the UCC softball team. Coach Strinz sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Freshman player Kiley Nevaeh Jones, 19, of Nampa, Idaho, was declared deceased at the scene. ​

The remaining eight passengers on the bus suffered moderate to serious injuries and received emergency medical treatment. The driver of the pickup truck also sustained serious injuries and was taken to an emergency medical center. Authorities have indicated that impaired driving is considered a primary cause of the crash, and a criminal investigation is ongoing. ​

UCC President Dr. Rachel Pokrandt expressed the college’s grief, stating, “We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our student-athletes, Kiley Jones, and one of our coaches, Jami Strinz, lost their lives in the accident. Kevin was part of a group of children attempting to cross the highway outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. ​

​It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kyle Joseph Boyer, who departed this life on April 18, 2025, at the age of 28. Born on October 17, 1996, in Detroit, Michigan, Kyle was a cherished resident of Harper Woods, known for his kindness, vibrant spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him.​

Kyle was the devoted son of Bryan and Judith Boyer (née Pelkey). He was preceded in death by his aunts, Pam (Charles) and Patricia; his cousin, David Pelkey (Tina); and his grandparents, Harold and Margaret Boyer, and Howard and Gertrude Pelkey. Kyle’s memory will be forever treasured by his family and friends, who will miss his warmth and the light he brought into their lives.​

A visitation for Kyle will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, located at 30009 Hoover Road, Warren, MI 48093. A funeral service will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the same location.​
