Tar on Evans Charged After Domestic Dispute Escalates into High-Speed Chase and Crash

HOLLISTER, NC — A domestic dispute on the morning of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, escalated into a dangerous car chase that ended in a crash and multiple charges for 24-year-old Taevon Evans of Warrenton.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., Deputy D. Wilson and Corporal M. Sledge of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a domestic disturbance at a retail store located at Highway 561 and Evans Road in Hollister. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Taevon Evans engaged in an intense argument with a female victim.

As officers approached, Evans reportedly became irate and fled the scene in the female victim’s vehicle. When Deputy Wilson attempted a traffic stop, Evans refused to pull over, prompting a high-speed pursuit that spanned into Warren County.

The chase came to an end when Evans crashed the stolen vehicle on Richardson Road. He was immediately taken into custody at the scene.

Evans now faces several serious charges, including:

    • Felony Flee to Elude Arrest
    • Resisting a Public Officer
    • Larceny of a Motor Vehicle

Following his arrest, Taevon Evans was issued a $2,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 24, 2025.

Officials from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the potentially dangerous nature of the situation and the importance of rapid law enforcement intervention. “This incident could have ended much worse,” said a department spokesperson. “We’re thankful no one was injured during the pursuit.”

The female victim’s identity has not been released, and further details about the domestic incident remain under investigation.

Community members are being urged to seek help in domestic violence situations before they escalate. The sheriff’s office reiterated its commitment to public safety and encouraged anyone experiencing domestic issues to reach out to local resources.

  • Two Juveniles Charged in Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old Xyere Brooks in Camden, NJ

Two Juveniles Charged in Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old Xyere Brooks in Camden, NJ

CAMDEN, NJ — A tragic and deeply unsettling incident has shaken the Camden community following the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Xyere Brooks, a beloved teenager whose life was cut short under heartbreaking circumstances. Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez announced on Tuesday that two juveniles have been officially charged in connection with the shooting, which occurred earlier this month.

The incident unfolded around 12:35 p.m. on June 6, 2025, when officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to an emergency call about a person shot at a residence in the 1500 block of Thorn Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Xyere Brooks suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Preliminary investigations revealed that several juveniles were present in the residence at the time of the shooting. According to law enforcement, a 16-year-old male is believed to have brought the firearm into the home. In a devastating turn of events, a 12-year-old girl allegedly gained access to the weapon and, while handling it recklessly, discharged the firearm, fatally striking Xyere.

The 12-year-old girl now faces serious charges, including Second-Degree Manslaughter and Second-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. The 16-year-old male has been charged with Second-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon for his role in bringing the firearm into the residence.

Both juveniles have been released by the court under undisclosed conditions and are scheduled to appear in court on July 23, 2025.

The tragic loss of Xyere Brooks has reverberated throughout Camden, leaving family members, friends, neighbors, and classmates grappling with grief and disbelief. Xyere, described by those who knew him as a bright and kind young man with a promising future, is now being remembered with an outpouring of love and heartbreak.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy that underscores the dangers of unsecured firearms, especially in the hands of minors,” said Prosecutor Grace MacAulay in a statement. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Xyere Brooks, and we are committed to ensuring that justice is served.”

Chief Gabriel Rodriguez echoed the sentiments, urging community members to work together to prevent such incidents. “Too many lives are being lost to gun violence,” Rodriguez said. “We must all do our part to protect our youth — that includes safely storing firearms, monitoring access, and educating our children.”

This case once again highlights the critical issue of gun safety and the far-reaching consequences of firearm access among minors. Advocates are calling for stronger preventive measures, including responsible gun storage laws, expanded education efforts, and increased community outreach to address the root causes of youth gun violence.

As the community continues to mourn Xyere’s death, there are growing calls for healing, accountability, and a renewed commitment to protecting the lives of young people across Camden and beyond.

A candlelight vigil in memory of Xyere Brooks is reportedly being organized by local youth groups and community leaders, as Camden comes together in grief and unity.

The investigation revealed that Smith was targeting utility wires, causing significant disruption to essential city services, damaging public infrastructure, and putting communities at risk. Detectives located and arrested Smith while he was driving a stolen Ford F-250, and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a large quantity of stolen wire and even a street lamp.

The case was presented to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office, which issued an extensive array of charges against Smith, including:

    • 63 felony counts for crimes such as:

      • Tampering with Utilities – First Degree,
      • Property Damage – First Degree,
      • Tampering – First Degree, and

Investigators believe that Smith’s actions resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages, including the cost of the stolen materials and the repairs needed to restore impacted infrastructure.

Wire theft is a growing issue in urban centers, and officials warn that it poses serious risks—including exposed live wires, power outages, and service disruptions that can compromise public safety and lead to financial strain for both residents and local governments.

While Smith is now in custody, detectives say the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working to determine if he may be connected to additional cases or had accomplices.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department urges residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity involving utility infrastructure. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the department directly or provide anonymous tips through CrimeStoppers.

  • Michigan Prep School Teacher Jocelynn Sanroman Arrested for Alleged Sexual Relationship with 16-Year-Old Student

Michigan Prep School Teacher Jocelynn Sanroman Arrested for Alleged Sexual Relationship with 16-Year-Old Student

Oakland County, MI — A 26-year-old prep school teacher, Jocelynn Sanroman, has been arrested and charged with three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Student in the Third Degree following allegations of a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student. The disturbing incident allegedly occurred in August 2023, but came to light only recently after Sanroman reportedly boasted about the encounter to a co-worker, who later reported her to authorities.

Sanroman, who was employed at Oakside Prep Academy, a charter school in Oakland County, is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual conduct with the minor while in a position of authority and trust as an educator. According to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, the student was actively enrolled at the school at the time of the incident.

The case took a significant turn when Sanroman allegedly disclosed details of the encounter to a colleague, seemingly without concern for the legal or ethical gravity of her actions. That colleague, recognizing the serious nature of the allegation, alerted authorities, triggering a formal investigation that ultimately led to Sanroman’s arrest on Monday.

    Charges and Legal Implications

Sanroman now faces three felony charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Student in the Third Degree. Under Michigan law, third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a student and a school employee carries a potential prison sentence of up to 15 years per count, especially when the offender is in a position of authority over the victim, such as a teacher.

In cases involving minors, especially where power dynamics are involved, the law is clear: consent is not a defense. The legal system views any sexual relationship between a student and an educator as an abuse of power, regardless of the student’s age or apparent willingness.

    Reaction from Authorities and Community

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office released a statement condemning the alleged conduct:

“This case highlights a serious breach of professional ethics and a criminal abuse of trust. Teachers hold a unique position of influence over students, and that position must never be exploited. We commend the individual who came forward and reported this behavior.”

Oakside Prep Academy has not released a public statement regarding the arrest, but sources familiar with the school’s administration say that Sanroman has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. The school is also expected to cooperate fully with law enforcement and provide resources for students and families impacted by the case.

    Ongoing Investigation

While Sanroman has been formally charged, the investigation remains ongoing. Law enforcement officials are working to determine whether there may be additional victims or whether other school personnel had knowledge of the misconduct and failed to report it.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has encouraged anyone with information related to the case — including past students or staff members — to come forward.

    Community Concerns

The arrest has sparked outrage and concern among parents, educators, and students alike. Allegations of sexual misconduct involving a trusted adult and a minor strike at the core of community safety and the integrity of the education system.

Local parent organizations have already begun calling for stricter oversight and background checks for charter school employees, as well as improved mechanisms for reporting misconduct within school systems.

Jocelynn Sanroman is currently being held in custody, with arraignment proceedings underway. A bond decision and preliminary hearing date will be announced in the coming days.

Anyone with tips or concerns related to this case is encouraged to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office or the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

  • Juvenile Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder and Robbery in Tuscaloosa Shooting

Juvenile Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder and Robbery in Tuscaloosa Shooting

Tuscaloosa, Alabama — Authorities have arrested and charged a juvenile in connection with a shooting that occurred Friday morning in Tuscaloosa, leaving a 38-year-old man injured and a community on edge. The suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to their age, now faces serious felony charges, including Attempted Murder and Robbery, stemming from a violent encounter that unfolded along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

According to Capt. Marty Sellers of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, police responded to a report of gunfire in the 3300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, officers located the male victim, a 38-year-old Tuscaloosa resident, who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim informed police that he had initially given the suspect money, but the situation escalated when the suspect returned demanding more cash. When the victim refused, the suspect shot him and allegedly stole additional money before fleeing the scene.

Working quickly, investigators gathered witness statements and reviewed available surveillance footage, ultimately identifying a juvenile suspect. Authorities were able to locate and arrest the individual, who has since been transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where they are being held without bond pending a judicial hearing.

    Serious Charges Filed Against Juvenile

Due to the severity of the charges, Capt. Sellers confirmed that the juvenile is being charged as an adult and is being held in county jail rather than a juvenile detention center — a decision often reserved for violent crimes involving firearms and significant bodily harm.

The juvenile now faces two major charges:

    • Attempted Murder
    • Robbery (First-Degree)

The Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Office will determine the next steps in the legal process, including whether the case will proceed entirely in adult court. Given the gravity of the alleged actions and the use of a firearm, prosecutors are expected to push for strong accountability.

    Victim Recovering, Community Left Shaken

The shooting has left the community grappling with the troubling rise in violent crime involving young suspects. Fortunately, the victim is recovering and receiving medical treatment, and authorities report that his injuries are not considered life-threatening. However, the emotional and psychological scars of such a violent encounter may endure far longer.

“We are fortunate that this incident did not result in a fatality,” said Capt. Sellers. “This was a senseless act of violence that could have ended very differently. We are committed to pursuing justice for the victim and ensuring that our community remains safe.”

    Ongoing Investigation

While the primary suspect is now in custody, the investigation remains active. Authorities are working to determine whether anyone else was involved in the planning or execution of the robbery and shooting. Law enforcement officials encourage any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit continues to handle the investigation and is urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Tuscaloosa Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (205) 752-STOP.

As the legal process moves forward, this case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of youth involvement in violent crime — and the devastating toll such actions can take on individuals and communities alike.

  • Samuel Camposeco Sentenced to Life in Prison for Attempted Murder of Police Officer During 2017 Dinuba Gang-Related Robbery

Samuel Camposeco Sentenced to Life in Prison for Attempted Murder of Police Officer During 2017 Dinuba Gang-Related Robbery

Dinuba, California — Justice has been served in a case that shook the city of Dinuba and its law enforcement community. On July 1, 2025, in Department 10 of the Tulare County Superior Court, Samuel Camposeco, age 29, was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for the attempted murder of a peace officer during a gang-related armed robbery at a Texaco gas station in 2017.

The violent incident, which unfolded on January 5, 2017, began when Samuel Camposeco and accomplice Luis Vargas—both armed with semi-automatic firearms—stormed the Texaco gas station in Dinuba, attempting to commit an armed robbery. The situation escalated when an off-duty police officer, inside the store at the time, recognized suspicious behavior and exited the store to call for assistance.

Moments later, a Dinuba Police Department officer coincidentally arrived at the scene as his shift began. From outside the building, the officer witnessed Luis Vargas pistol-whipping the store clerk, while Camposeco, wearing a gray hoodie, pointed a firearm at the clerk. Acting quickly, the officer identified himself by announcing, “Dinuba Police Department” before entering the store and firing to stop the violent assault.

Camposeco and Vargas returned fire immediately, forcing the officer to retreat to the safety of his patrol vehicle. In the chaos, the two suspects grabbed money from the store and fled the scene in separate directions. Vargas charged toward the officer, still armed, and refused multiple commands to drop his weapon. In the ensuing shootout, Vargas was struck multiple times by the officer’s return fire and later died from his injuries.

Camposeco managed to escape that night but was located and arrested a month later in the city of Exeter, ending a multi-agency manhunt.

    Guilty Verdict and Charges

Following a bifurcated trial conducted under AB 333, which required separate consideration for gang-related enhancements, Camposeco was found guilty on a comprehensive set of serious felony charges, including:

    • Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer with Premeditation, including the special allegation of discharging a firearm
    • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, with special allegations of firearm use and commission for the benefit of a criminal street gang
    • Robbery, with firearm and gang allegations
    • Assault with a Semi-Automatic Firearm on a Peace Officer, with firearm enhancement
    • Assault with a Semi-Automatic Firearm on the Store Clerk, with firearm and gang allegations

On May 29, 2025, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict. On June 3, 2025, the jury confirmed that all crimes were committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang, significantly enhancing the sentencing consequences.

Adding to the severity of the sentence was Camposeco’s prior strike conviction for attempted residential burglary in 2016, which qualified under California’s Three Strikes Law.

A Victory for Justice and a Warning to Violent Offenders

“This case is a stark reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day,” said a representative from the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office. “Samuel Camposeco showed no regard for human life, firing at an officer doing his duty to protect the public and violently assaulting an innocent store clerk. The sentence handed down today ensures he will no longer pose a threat to society.”

The Dinuba Police Department, along with community leaders, have expressed gratitude for the work of the jury, prosecutors, and law enforcement agencies that ensured justice was served after years of preparation, investigation, and court proceedings.

    Conclusion

The sentencing of Samuel Camposeco to 50 years to life represents a decisive response to gang violence, attempted murder, and the deliberate targeting of peace officers. It also delivers long-awaited closure to the victims of this terrifying incident — including the wounded store clerk, the targeted officers, and the broader Dinuba community traumatized by this brazen act of violence.

With this chapter now closed, the message from law enforcement and the justice system is clear: those who attempt to harm public servants and terrorize communities through gang violence will be held accountable — and removed from society for good.
