At a home in east Birmingham, where balloons may have floated and laughter once echoed, violence tore through the peace and left a father lifeless in the yard.

Inside the house, Shatice Jackson and Mickese Bostic—partners and parents—got into an argument. The details of their dispute remain under investigation, but what’s clear is that the tension escalated fast. Shots rang out inside the home. No one was struck by the gunfire, but the danger had already filled the air, and the sense of safety was gone.

The argument spilled outside, and that’s where the tragedy took its final, fatal turn.

With children and relatives watching—many too young to understand but old enough to remember—Shatice got into her car. In a horrifying moment that no one could stop, she drove the vehicle forward, pinning Mickese between her car and the house. He died right there, in front of the people who loved him most. In the early hours of Sunday, April 20, 2025, a tragic shooting occurred in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of two men and injuries to another.​

Around 2:40 a.m., Chicago Police Department officers on patrol heard gunfire near the 7200 block of South Paxton Avenue. Responding to the scene, they found three men inside a residence, all suffering from gunshot wounds.​

The victims were identified as 31-year-old Derrick D. Harris and 37-year-old Devantel Strickland. Both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead. ​

A third victim, a 24-year-old man, was shot in the right arm. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and was reported to be in good condition. ​

As of now, no suspects are in custody, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Area One detectives are actively investigating the incident. ​

This incident adds to a series of violent events in Chicago over the Easter weekend, during which at least four people were killed and 11 others injured in various shootings across the city. ​

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the South Shore shooting to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.​
