Martinsville Homicide Update: Victim Identified as James Baldwin Jr.; Vehicle of Interest Recovered as Investigation Progresses

MARTINSVILLE, VA — The Martinsville Police Department has announced significant developments in the ongoing homicide investigation following the discovery of a man who was fatally shot along Lee’s Ridge Road earlier this week. The victim has been formally identified as James Baldwin Jr., a 34-year-old resident of Martinsville. Authorities also confirmed that a vehicle of interest connected to the case has been located and recovered, bringing renewed momentum to the investigation.

    Victim Found with Gunshot Wounds

On the morning of [insert date], emergency dispatchers received a call reporting a man lying unresponsive along the 800 block of Lee’s Ridge Road. Upon arrival, first responders and law enforcement officials found the victim, later identified as Baldwin, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial observations suggested that Baldwin may have been shot elsewhere and left at the location where he was found. Residents in the quiet suburban neighborhood reported hearing what they believed to be gunshots late the previous evening, but no calls were made to authorities at the time.

Victim Identified as James Baldwin Jr.

On [insert date], the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the victim as James Baldwin Jr., following an autopsy and formal identification procedures. Baldwin was known to local authorities and had a history of minor run-ins with the law, but family members described him as “a devoted father and brother who had turned his life around.”

In a public statement, Baldwin’s mother, Carol Baldwin, expressed grief over the loss of her son. “James was working hard to build a better life. He didn’t deserve this,” she said. “We want justice, and we want answers.”

    Vehicle of Interest Located

As part of their investigation, detectives issued a public alert for information related to a dark-colored sedan seen in the area around the time of the shooting. Thanks to community tips and surveillance footage gathered from nearby homes and businesses, the vehicle—described as a black 2012 Toyota Camry—was located on Thursday evening.

The car was found abandoned on a secluded property off Route 220, just outside the city limits. Forensic teams have since impounded the vehicle and are currently processing it for evidence, including possible fingerprints, DNA, and ballistic residue.

“We are optimistic that the recovery of this vehicle will provide us with critical leads,” said Martinsville Police Chief G. E. Cassady. “We are pursuing all angles, and we’re grateful to the community for coming forward with helpful information.”

    Investigation Remains Active

Police have not named any suspects at this time, but sources close to the investigation confirm that several persons of interest are being questioned. Detectives are also examining Baldwin’s recent communications and movements to piece together a timeline leading up to his death.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen or heard suspicious activity in the Lee’s Ridge Road area on the night of the shooting to come forward.

“This remains a very active and sensitive case,” Chief Cassady noted. “We’re asking the public to remain patient and vigilant. Even the smallest detail could help us solve this crime.”

    Community Reaction

The homicide has shaken the tight-knit Martinsville community, where violent crimes of this nature are relatively rare. Residents held a candlelight vigil in Baldwin’s memory on Friday night, where friends and family gathered to honor his life and demand justice.

City officials echoed the sentiments of loss and resilience. “This tragedy has touched many lives,” said Councilwoman Renee Chambers. “We stand with the Baldwin family and support the Martinsville Police Department in their pursuit of justice.”

    How to Help

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Martinsville Police Department at [insert phone number] or call Crime Stoppers at [insert Crime Stoppers contact info]. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.

Shooting at Summerfield Park Leaves One Injured; West Sacramento Police Investigate

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — April 30, 2025 — A tranquil spring afternoon turned chaotic on Wednesday after gunfire rang out at Summerfield Park in West Sacramento, resulting in at least one person being injured. The incident occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m., alarming local residents and prompting an immediate response from West Sacramento Police Department (WSPD) officers and emergency medical services.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots near the central playground area of the park, which is a popular spot for families and children, especially on sunny days like today. Panic quickly ensued as parkgoers scrambled for cover and rushed to leave the area.

According to preliminary information from the WSPD, officers arrived on the scene within minutes of receiving multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered one individual suffering from what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of family, was treated on-site by paramedics and later transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

“We are thankful that the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, but this kind of violence in a public space is deeply concerning,” said WSPD spokesperson Lt. Rachel Hernandez during a press briefing held at the scene. “Our officers are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and we urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward.”

At this time, authorities have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or random, and no arrests have been made. Investigators have cordoned off a large section of the park, particularly around the basketball courts and picnic area, as they comb the area for evidence. Officers were seen speaking with witnesses and collecting surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses.

Parents who were at the park with their children described the event as terrifying. “One minute the kids were playing, and the next there were loud pops,” said Maria Sanchez, a local mother who was at the park with her two children. “We just ran. I didn’t even know where the shots were coming from.”

This incident has rattled the community, which typically considers Summerfield Park a safe and welcoming place. City officials have promised increased patrols in the area over the coming days to reassure the public and help restore a sense of security.

Mayor Martha Guerrero also issued a statement late Wednesday, expressing her concern and calling for calm. “We are deeply troubled by today’s violence at Summerfield Park. Our thoughts are with the victim and their loved ones. We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable and that our community remains safe.”

The WSPD is asking anyone with information related to the shooting to contact their tip line at (916) 617-4900. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the West Sacramento Police Department’s website.

As the investigation continues, residents are advised to avoid the area around Summerfield Park and to remain vigilant. Authorities have not provided an estimated time for when the park will fully reopen to the public.

This developing story will be updated as more details become available.

  • KINGMAN, Ariz. — April 30, 2025 — A tense and rapidly unfolding situation is gripping the communities of Kingman and nearby Golden Valley, Arizona, as law enforcement authorities continue an intensive manhunt for a suspect considered armed and extremely dangerous

KINGMAN, Ariz. — April 30, 2025 — A tense and rapidly unfolding situation is gripping the communities of Kingman and nearby Golden Valley, Arizona, as law enforcement authorities continue an intensive manhunt for a suspect considered armed and extremely dangerous

Multiple agencies, including the Kingman Police Department (KPD) and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), are coordinating efforts in pursuit of a man believed to be linked to separate shooting incidents that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

According to preliminary reports, the first shooting was reported shortly after 1:00 p.m. in a residential area on the outskirts of Kingman. Emergency services were dispatched following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and a potential victim. A short time later, another shooting incident was reported in the neighboring community of Golden Valley, prompting a swift escalation in the law enforcement response.

Investigators quickly established that both scenes shared a common suspect description: a white male in his late 30s or early 40s, wearing a dark hoodie and jeans, last seen fleeing one of the scenes in a dark-colored pickup truck. Witnesses stated the suspect appeared agitated and may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Authorities have not yet released the name of the individual, but officials have confirmed he is considered “armed, dangerous, and unpredictable.”

As the manhunt intensified into the evening hours, law enforcement set up roadblocks and checkpoints along major thoroughfares, including U.S. Route 93 and Interstate 40, in hopes of intercepting the suspect. Aerial surveillance units, K-9 teams, and SWAT personnel have been deployed to aid in the search. Nearby residents have been urged to remain indoors, secure their homes, and report any suspicious activity.

“We’re asking the public to be vigilant and exercise extreme caution,” said Kingman Police Chief Rusty Cooper during a press conference late Wednesday. “This individual has demonstrated a willingness to use violence, and we are doing everything in our power to bring him into custody safely and swiftly.”

Details about the victims and the motive behind the shootings remain unclear, though unconfirmed reports suggest that the incidents may be connected to a domestic dispute or a targeted confrontation. Medical personnel transported at least two individuals to Kingman Regional Medical Center; their conditions have not been officially disclosed.

The sudden surge of law enforcement presence has left local residents rattled. “It’s terrifying,” said a Golden Valley homeowner who asked not to be identified. “We heard helicopters overhead, then saw police cars racing up the highway. It feels like something out of a movie, but it’s happening right here.”

Schools in the area were placed on temporary lockdown as a precaution, though no threats were reported on any campuses. Kingman Unified School District officials have stated that they will assess the situation closely before deciding on any closures or delays for Thursday.

As darkness falls, the search continues with renewed urgency. Law enforcement is asking anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact KPD or MCSO immediately and not to approach the individual.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

In Loving Memory of Kevin Dougherty

In Loving Memory of Kevin Dougherty
    (April 29th, 2025)

On April 29th, 2025, the world grew dimmer as we lost someone truly irreplaceable — Kevin Dougherty. His sudden and heartbreaking passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Gone far too soon, Kevin leaves behind a legacy defined by compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

It is difficult to put into words the depth of our sorrow. Kevin was the kind of person whose presence could light up a room — not through loud declarations or grand gestures, but through the quiet and steadfast warmth he carried within him. He had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether you had known him for years or just met him once, Kevin had a rare ability to make a lasting impression.

Born with a generous spirit and a kind heart, Kevin lived his life guided by a deep sense of loyalty and integrity. He was a rock for those around him — a steady hand in moments of chaos, a voice of reason in times of uncertainty, and a source of unwavering encouragement when others needed it most. His laughter, his counsel, and his kindness were constants in the lives of so many.

To his family, Kevin was a pillar — a devoted son, sibling, partner, and father. He loved fiercely and selflessly, always putting the well-being of those he loved above his own. His commitment to his family was evident in every choice he made, every sacrifice he bore quietly, and every proud word he spoke about the people he cherished. He was never one to seek recognition for his efforts; he simply showed up, day after day, with love and steadfastness.

To his friends, Kevin was more than a companion — he was a confidant, a brother in spirit, and the glue that held many bonds together. His generosity was boundless, not just in material things but in time, energy, and genuine care. He remembered the little details that mattered, celebrated others’ joys as if they were his own, and stood firm in the hardest times. There was a sense of safety in his presence — a knowing that, no matter what, Kevin had your back.

Professionally and personally, Kevin left his mark with quiet diligence and quiet humility. He didn’t chase titles or acclaim, but rather purpose, meaning, and impact. He brought excellence to everything he did, not because he sought perfection, but because he cared deeply. Those who worked alongside him speak of a man of principle — someone who led not with ego, but with empathy and insight.

In his everyday actions — the thoughtful texts, the unexpected calls to check in, the little jokes to lift your day — Kevin wove a tapestry of love and connection. And now, though he is no longer with us in the way we so desperately wish, those threads remain. The memories of him — his smile, his voice, his steady presence — live on in the countless lives he touched.

As we grieve, we also give thanks — for the time we had, for the love we received, for the lessons he taught us, often without even trying. Kevin’s legacy is not one of fame or fortune, but of something far more enduring: a life well-lived through love, service, and integrity.

To say Kevin will be missed is an understatement. The loss is profound and the pain real. But in our sorrow, we hold tight to the belief that a spirit like his never truly fades. It echoes in every life he made better, in every heart he healed, in every act of kindness we now pass on in his name.

Rest in peace, Kevin. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.

Officer-Involved Shooting at Tohono Chul Park Sparks Regional Investigation

TUCSON, Ariz. — April 30, 2025 — A quiet spring evening in one of southern Arizona’s most serene desert sanctuaries took a tragic and disturbing turn on Monday when a deadly officer-involved shooting unfolded at Tohono Chul Park, just north of Tucson near the Oro Valley area. The incident, now under active investigation by the Pima County Regional Critical Incident Team (RCIT), has left many in the community shaken and searching for answers.

According to preliminary information from law enforcement, officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the park around 6:45 p.m. Though the specific nature of the original call has not yet been publicly disclosed, authorities confirmed that it escalated rapidly, culminating in the use of deadly force by at least one officer at the scene.

The individual shot was pronounced dead shortly after the confrontation. Officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. No officers were injured during the incident.

Tohono Chul Park, known for its botanical gardens, art galleries, and tranquil walking paths, is typically a haven for nature lovers and families seeking respite from the city. Monday’s shooting shattered that peace, bringing a swift and robust response from multiple agencies, including the Oro Valley Police Department and Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The Pima County Regional Critical Incident Team—a coalition of local law enforcement agencies formed to independently investigate high-profile use-of-force events—has taken over the case. Their role is to ensure transparency and objectivity in the inquiry, especially in matters involving police actions that result in serious injury or death.

“This is a deeply troubling incident, and we are committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation,” said a spokesperson for the RCIT. “We ask the public for patience as we work to gather facts, interview witnesses, and review available evidence, including any body-worn camera footage.”

Witnesses who were present at the park during the time of the shooting have been encouraged to come forward. Investigators have already spoken to several bystanders and are reviewing surveillance footage from the park’s entrance and facilities. Authorities have not confirmed whether the individual involved was armed or what actions led to the escalation.

As is standard procedure, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The department has stated that it will release further details once the RCIT’s preliminary findings are complete.

Community reaction to the incident has been one of sorrow and concern. Local civil rights organizations have called for transparency and accountability, emphasizing the need for continued dialogue between law enforcement and the public to build trust and prevent future tragedies.

“This is not just a matter for law enforcement—this is a matter for our entire community,” said Maria Gutierrez, director of the Tucson Coalition for Justice and Reform. “We must ensure that every life is valued and that the use of force is always a last resort.”

Tohono Chul Park remained closed on Tuesday as investigators continued their work. Park officials issued a brief statement expressing condolences to those affected by the incident and reaffirmed their commitment to the safety of all visitors.

The RCIT has not provided a timeline for the completion of the investigation but has pledged to provide updates as new information becomes available.

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department or submit tips anonymously through the local Crime Stoppers line.

  • I am absolutely devastated by the sudden passing of Jason Schreyer.

I am absolutely devastated by the sudden passing of Jason Schreyer.

Jason was a bright light in our lives — a passionate, dedicated, and deeply principled person who gave so much of himself to the world around him. His loss is not just personal; it’s a tremendous blow to our community and the greater movement for justice, equity, and progress that he so fiercely believed in.

From the moment I met Jason, it was clear that he was someone who didn’t just talk about making a difference — he lived it every single day. Whether it was organizing for progressive causes, knocking on doors in the cold, staying up late planning the next campaign, or simply being there when someone needed a hand or a voice of reason, Jason showed up. Always. He brought an unmatched energy to the work — a combination of urgency, heart, and sharp intellect — and inspired so many others to give just a little more than they thought they could.

He also brought joy — so much of it. I have countless memories of Jason that make me smile even through the heartbreak: singing karaoke at the top of our lungs, laughing over obscure municipal politics, exchanging inside jokes at campaign headquarters, and having those deep, late-night conversations that somehow made the world seem a little more manageable. Jason had this incredible ability to be both fiercely committed and incredibly fun — he made the work lighter just by being himself.

More than anything, I was lucky to call Jason a friend. He was someone you could trust, someone who cared deeply, and someone who made you feel seen. His generosity of spirit, his humor, and his unwavering commitment to a better world are just some of the many things I will carry with me forever.

His loss is monumental. It’s hard to imagine this world without him — without his voice, his vision, his laughter. But I know that his impact will live on in the countless people he inspired, supported, and stood beside. In that way, his legacy is very much alive.

To Sarah, Jared, Ed, Lily, and the entire Schreyer family — I am holding you all in my heart during this unimaginably difficult time. Jason loved you so deeply, and my love and condolences are with you.

Rest in power, Jason. We miss you more than words can express.
