Police Investigate Shooting Outside Luna’s Restaurant at 82nd and Troost; One Man Hospitalized

KANSAS CITY, MO — Authorities are actively investigating a shooting incident that took place outside Luna’s Restaurant, located near 82nd Street and Troost Avenue, late Saturday evening. According to initial reports from the Kansas City Police Department, a male victim was injured in the shooting and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. His current condition has not yet been publicly disclosed.

The incident, which occurred outside the well-known neighborhood eatery, has raised concerns among residents and prompted a heavy police response. Officers responded to a call regarding shots fired in the area and arrived on the scene to find the male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel rendered aid at the scene before rushing the man to the hospital.

    Circumstances Remain Unclear

As of Sunday morning, investigators say the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. It is unclear whether the incident was targeted, random, or the result of an altercation that escalated into violence. Witnesses at the scene have been interviewed, but police have yet to release any information regarding possible suspects or arrests.

“We’re still in the early stages of this investigation,” said a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department. “At this time, we’re working to determine what led up to the shooting and whether the suspect or suspects are known to the victim.”

Officers secured the perimeter of Luna’s Restaurant and a section of the parking lot where the shooting reportedly took place. Evidence markers were placed on the ground as investigators gathered shell casings and other forensic materials. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is also being reviewed to identify any vehicles or individuals involved.

    Community on Edge

Located in a busy part of south Kansas City, Luna’s Restaurant is a familiar establishment known for its casual dining and family-friendly atmosphere. The shooting has unsettled regular patrons and neighbors, many of whom expressed shock that such violence occurred in an area they consider relatively calm.

“I’ve been coming here for years,” said one witness who asked not to be named. “It’s a quiet spot. You don’t expect something like this to happen when you’re just trying to grab dinner.”

Others in the neighborhood echoed those sentiments, with some calling for increased police patrols and a more visible law enforcement presence to deter similar incidents.

    Ongoing Investigation

At this point, no suspect description has been released, and authorities have not said whether the shooting occurred during a confrontation inside the restaurant, outside in the parking lot, or in connection to any previous disputes.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible. Anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting or has information that may be useful to the investigation is encouraged to come forward.

Two Firefighters Fatally Shot During Wildfire Response on Canfield Mountain; Manhunt Underway for Suspects

COEUR D’ALENE, ID — In a deeply tragic and shocking turn of events, two firefighters were killed Saturday afternoon after coming under gunfire while responding to a wildfire on Canfield Mountain in Kootenai County. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatalities and announced that multiple suspects remain at large, sparking an urgent manhunt and sending waves of grief and outrage through the community.

    A Routine Response Turns Deadly

The deadly incident occurred during what was expected to be a routine wildfire containment operation in the rugged terrain of Canfield Mountain, just outside the city of Coeur d’Alene. Fire crews had been dispatched to combat a brush fire that had sparked in the dry, wooded area popular with hikers and mountain bikers. While details are still emerging, authorities say the situation escalated rapidly when gunfire erupted, targeting first responders on the scene.

Two firefighters — whose names are being withheld pending family notification — were struck by bullets and later pronounced dead. Despite the best efforts of emergency medical personnel on site, both succumbed to their injuries.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, supported by multiple local and federal law enforcement agencies, has launched a full-scale investigation into the shootings and is actively searching for the individuals responsible.

    Suspects on the Run

While authorities have not released specific information about the suspects, including potential motives or identities, Sheriff’s officials confirmed that multiple individuals are believed to have fled the area following the shooting. A manhunt is now underway, with search efforts focused on the wooded mountain and surrounding regions.

Residents near Canfield Mountain have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Law enforcement has established roadblocks and increased patrols in the area. Drones and helicopters have also been deployed to aid in the search.

“This is a horrific and senseless tragedy,” said Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris in a press statement Saturday evening. “These firefighters were doing their job—protecting our community—and were met with violence that defies understanding. We will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice.”

Grief and Outrage Across the Region

News of the fatal shootings has sent shockwaves through Idaho’s firefighting and emergency services community, as well as the residents of Kootenai County who have long relied on the bravery of their local fire personnel. Tributes and condolences began pouring in just hours after the incident was confirmed.

“These heroes gave their lives to protect others. We stand with their families, their departments, and the entire firefighting community in mourning their loss,” said Idaho Governor Brad Little, who called the attack “an assault on every Idahoan.”

Flags have been ordered to fly at half-staff across the state in honor of the fallen firefighters. A candlelight vigil is being planned in downtown Coeur d’Alene in the coming days to honor their memory and offer support to grieving families.

    Investigation and Next Steps

At this time, investigators are working to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal confrontation. The FBI and ATF have joined the case due to the nature of the attack and the potential involvement of firearms on federal land. The wildfire operation on Canfield Mountain has been suspended, and the area remains an active crime scene.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information, dashcam footage, or knowledge of suspicious individuals in the area during the time of the shooting to come forward. A reward is expected to be announced soon for tips that lead to an arrest.

    Remembering the Fallen

While their names have yet to be released publicly, the fallen firefighters are being remembered by colleagues as dedicated public servants who loved their work, their team, and their mission to protect others at any cost. Fellow firefighters have placed black bunting over station doors, and many departments across the Pacific Northwest are expected to take part in upcoming memorial services.

“These were not just firefighters. They were family,” said one department spokesperson. “They ran toward danger, not away from it. We’ll never forget that courage.”

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (208) 446-1300. In an emergency, dial 911.

Workplace Violence in Bridgeton: Woman Shot by Coworker at Hussmann Corporation
Suspect in Custody, Victim Recovering After Late-Night Incident

BRIDGETON, MO — A disturbing act of workplace violence shook the quiet community of Bridgeton late Thursday night when a woman was shot multiple times by a coworker inside the Hussmann Corporation facility, located at 12999 St. Charles Rock Road. The violent incident unfolded following what authorities describe as a dispute that quickly escalated beyond words, leaving one employee hospitalized and another behind bars. Authorities swiftly identified and arrested the shooter as 51-year-old Charmain Martin, who was still on the scene when officers arrived.

Bridgeton Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene around 10:40 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired within the corporate building. When they arrived, officers discovered a female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders provided immediate medical attention before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. As of Friday morning, officials confirmed she is in stable condition, but the emotional and psychological toll of the incident is expected to be long-lasting.

According to police, Martin and the victim were both employees of Hussmann Corporation, a company known for manufacturing commercial refrigeration systems. The two reportedly became involved in a heated argument at work that culminated in the shooting.

Martin has been formally charged by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with:

    • First-Degree Assault
    • Armed Criminal Action

She is currently being held without bond at the St. Louis County Jail, with her bail set at $500,000. It remains unclear what the precise cause of the argument was or whether there had been any prior tension or incidents between the two coworkers. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine what may have led to such a violent confrontation.

In a statement released Friday morning, Bridgeton Police emphasized that the situation was quickly contained and that there is no ongoing threat to the public or other employees of the facility. They thanked Hussmann Corporation staff for their cooperation during the investigation and noted that the scene was secured shortly after officers arrived.

The Hussmann Corporation has not yet issued a formal public statement, but sources within the company have expressed deep concern and sadness over the incident. Employees who were on duty during the shooting are being offered counseling and support as they process the traumatic event.

Workplace violence, while still statistically rare, has been an increasing topic of concern across the country. This incident at Hussmann underscores the need for strong conflict resolution protocols, employee support systems, and security measures in professional environments.

Local leaders in Bridgeton have expressed solidarity with the victim and her family, as well as with the employees at Hussmann who are now grappling with the aftermath. Community members are calling for accountability, healing, and a deeper discussion about preventing workplace incidents before they escalate to violence.

As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the Bridgeton Police Department directly. Authorities have not released the name of the victim at this time, respecting her privacy and the wishes of her family.

This tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of addressing interpersonal conflict, especially in the workplace, before it turns deadly. For now, Bridgeton mourns the trauma inflicted upon one of its own, and the legal system prepares to hold the accused accountable for her actions.

Cedric Diequell-Stevens Moore Jailed After Vicious Assault on 9-Year-Old Son in Pontiac

PONTIAC, MI — A father from Pontiac, identified as Cedric Diequell-Stevens Moore, has been arrested and formally charged with multiple counts of child abuse after authorities say he brutally beat and choked his 9-year-old son for falling asleep on the couch.

The incident took place on Thursday night at Moore’s residence in the 100 block of South Edith Street, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Moore, 38, was arraigned on charges of second-degree and fourth-degree child abuse and remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

    Child Fled Home Seeking Help

Deputies say the abuse began when Moore became enraged after discovering his son asleep on the couch. The child told authorities that Moore threatened him, saying, “It’s gonna happen all night,” before launching a violent attack. The boy said Moore used a belt to whip him across his face, back, legs, and buttocks, and also struck him with a broom handle. He further stated that Moore choked him until he lost consciousness.

After Moore left the home to go to the store—leaving the injured 9-year-old alone with his 1-year-old sibling—the boy fled the house and went to a nearby residence to get help. The homeowner immediately called 911, prompting a swift response from deputies.

    Injuries Consistent with Severe Abuse

When deputies arrived, they found the child suffering from multiple visible injuries, including welts on his torso, severe abrasions to his right eye, and marks around his neck consistent with strangulation. Deputies noted that the boy’s statements about the abuse were consistent with the injuries he had sustained.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that both children have been removed from the home, and Child Protective Services is now involved in the case.

    Legal Proceedings and Public Reaction

During his arraignment, Cedric Diequell-Stevens Moore was informed of the charges against him. The second-degree child abuse charge, a felony, could lead to up to 10 years in prison, while the fourth-degree charge is a misdemeanor.

“This child showed immense bravery in escaping that situation and getting help,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. “Thanks to a concerned neighbor and quick law enforcement response, this child is now safe, and the suspect is behind bars.”

Community members and child advocacy groups have expressed outrage and sorrow over the incident, calling for heightened awareness and swift reporting of suspected child abuse.

    Next Court Date

A preliminary examination hearing for Cedric Diequell-Stevens Moore is scheduled for next week. Prosecutors will likely explore further details of the home environment and any prior history of abuse.

Rain, snow, or shine, Kevin showed up. He never hesitated to respond to a call, never wavered in his commitment, and never failed to give his all. He lived by the principle that it is nobler to serve than to be served, and he proved it time and time again with every shift, every emergency, every event, and every quiet moment of service behind the scenes.

Kevin’s love for this work — for this calling — was genuine and deep-rooted. He took immense pride in wearing the uniform, mentoring others, and protecting those around him. His legacy is written in the lives he touched, the people he helped, and the example he set for all who serve. From new recruits to seasoned veterans, Kevin was someone we all looked up to. His calm demeanor, depth of knowledge, and willingness to share what he knew made him not only an effective officer, but a beloved mentor and friend.

As we grieve his loss, we also extend our deepest condolences to those closest to him — his wife Debbie, his son Kevin C., and the rest of the Grau family. We hope they find comfort in the outpouring of love from those whose lives Kevin touched and in knowing just how respected and valued he was. His spirit of service will live on through all of us who continue the work he so loved.

Kevin, your absence is felt in every corner of our department. But so is your legacy — in every call we answer, in every life we protect, and in every moment of brotherhood and sacrifice.

Rest in peace, brother. We’ve got it from here.

You may have laid down your gear, but your service will never be forgotten.
