Deadly Shooting on West 2nd Street in Wichita Leaves Young Man Dead; Suspects Flee Scene, One Seen Carrying Baby

WICHITA, KS — A broad-daylight shooting erupted on the 2700 block of W 2nd Street, leaving one man in his 20s dead and prompting a major emergency response. Multiple 911 callers reported 6 to 10 gunshots, with one witness seeing a man lying motionless on the ground and others describing an exchange of gunfire between two individuals. Another caller said one man dove over bushes trying to escape the chaos.

Police responded emergently (code 39) due to the high-risk nature of the address, which has seen 9 previous incidents since April 1st, including two recent aggravated batteries.

At 2:31 PM, video surveillance revealed two males fleeing, with one man shockingly seen carrying a baby in his arms during the escape.

By 2:33 PM, officers located the victim, unresponsive and not breathing. EMS triaged him as code blue, and trauma personnel were alerted. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back and had a GCS score of 3, indicating a critical, likely fatal condition.

Despite resuscitation efforts, by 2:55 PM he was officially retriaged code black (deceased) on scene. Shell casings were recovered, confirming multiple rounds were fired.

Authorities have not yet confirmed arrests but continue searching for the fleeing suspects. The baby seen with one of the men remains a concern. Investigators are also reviewing the property’s history, which has been the site of repeated violent incidents in recent months.

This tragic loss has once again rattled the Wichita community. If you have any information or witnessed the event, you’re urged to contact Wichita Police or Crime Stoppers.

Rest in peace to the victim. Our deepest condolences go out to his family.

  • LOUISVILLE STRIKES AGAIN: TWO SHOT IN PARKLAND — AND THE CITY KEEPS SCROLLING

LOUISVILLE STRIKES AGAIN: TWO SHOT IN PARKLAND — AND THE CITY KEEPS SCROLLING

LOUISVILLE STRIKES AGAIN: TWO SHOT IN PARKLAND — AND THE CITY KEEPS SCROLLING

LOUISVILLE, KY — Another weekend, another round of gunfire in the city’s Parkland neighborhood. On Sunday afternoon, at just past 2:00 PM, two men were shot in broad daylight on the 800 block of South 33rd Street — a corner that’s no stranger to sirens, shell casings, and shrugged shoulders.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, the call came in while most people were still digesting brunch or avoiding the group chat. Officers arrived to find two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds, bleeding out in the middle of the day like it was just another event on the city calendar. Both men were transported to the hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, which in Louisville might as well mean “you made it to Monday.”

    No Suspects, No Snitches

Despite it being daylight, in a residential area, on a Sunday afternoon, nobody saw anything. Not a description of the shooter, not a direction of travel, not a license plate. As always, the surrounding block experienced a collective case of selective amnesia, a condition that tends to flare up every time gunshots ring out.

Witnesses? What witnesses? Just vibes, sirens, and silence.

    Same Story, Different Weekend

This case now sits in the hands of LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit — yes, that’s a real department, because this city now has enough gun violence to warrant one. In a place where you can almost set your watch by the sound of a firearm going off, it’s just another entry in the bloated case files of a unit whose name is grimly self-explanatory.

And the neighborhood? Desensitized. Numb. Hardened. The community’s reaction wasn’t fear or outrage — it was resignation. Another “damn,” another “not again,” another afternoon where gunshots beat the heat.

What We Know (and What We Don’t)

    • Time: 2:01 PM, June 29
    • Place: 800 block of S. 33rd Street
    • Victims: Two adult males, hospitalized
    • Condition: Non-life-threatening injuries
    • Suspects: Unknown
    • Eyewitnesses: Allegedly none
    • Motive: Still under investigation

    How You Can Help

Police are asking anyone with information to call the anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD. If you’ve got surveillance cameras nearby or heard something, say something — or, you know, just keep scrolling and pray it’s not your porch next.

Because in Louisville, “shots fired” isn’t news anymore — it’s background noise.

  • Clarification Issued After Van Fire in Arlington, Virginia Sparks False Explosion Reports

Clarification Issued After Van Fire in Arlington, Virginia Sparks False Explosion Reports

Clarification Issued After Van Fire in Arlington, Virginia Sparks False Explosion Reports

ARLINGTON, VA — Confusion and misinformation spread quickly across social media platforms on Sunday as numerous accounts reported that a van had “exploded” near Washington D.C. in Arlington, Virginia. However, emergency services have now confirmed that no explosion occurred, and that the incident was the result of a malfunctioning gas-powered vehicle.

    What Really Happened

According to official statements from Arlington EMS, a van caught fire due to what appears to be an engine malfunction, not an explosion. The vehicle, a gas-powered utility van, ignited near a busy intersection, generating thick black smoke that was visible for blocks and prompted alarmed posts from bystanders and social media users.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, and the fire was brought under control without incident. No injuries were reported, and no surrounding structures or vehicles were damaged.

    Misinformation and Viral Panic

Despite the relatively routine nature of the engine fire, dozens of posts online — including from some local influencers and pseudo-news accounts — incorrectly reported the event as an explosion, suggesting it may have involved hazardous materials or suspicious activity.

Arlington EMS quickly refuted these rumors in a follow-up statement:

“This was a gas-powered vehicle that caught fire due to a malfunctioning engine. There was no explosion, and no packages were involved.”

They further clarified that the incident had no connection to terrorism, criminal activity, or hazardous substances, urging the public not to spread unverified information.

The Role of Social Media in Emergency Situations

This incident highlights how quickly misinformation can spread during emergency responses — especially in high-profile or densely populated areas like Arlington, which sits just outside the nation’s capital. Officials are reminding residents to rely on official sources, such as local fire departments, EMS, and law enforcement, for accurate updates during developing events.

“While we appreciate the public’s vigilance and concern, it’s important that accurate information prevails,” said an Arlington Fire Department spokesperson. “Jumping to conclusions can create unnecessary panic and distract from the real work of first responders.”

    The Aftermath

As of now, the burned vehicle has been removed, and the area has returned to normal. A full investigation into the mechanical failure is underway, but early assessments point to an engine-related fire, not a deliberate or external cause.

Arlington officials thank the public for their concern and cooperation and urge all residents to follow verified accounts for real-time emergency updates.
