Headline: Barstow Police Shooting Leaves 23-Year-Old Woman Critically Injured, Sparks Outcry Over Use of Force in Walmart Parking Lot Incident

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Barstow Police Department responded to a shooting incident that left a 23-year-old woman critically injured. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a local Walmart, where officers were called to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, officers encountered a black Mustang occupied by Diante Yarber, 26, and three passengers. According to police reports, Yarber reversed the vehicle into a patrol car and then accelerated toward officers, prompting them to open fire. Yarber was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 23-year-old female passenger was airlifted to a trauma center with multiple gunshot wounds .

Family members and attorneys have questioned the police account, citing cellphone footage that appears to show the Mustang moving slowly backward as officers fired. Attorney Lee Merritt, representing Yarber’s family, stated, “The car was barely rolling backward. You can walk faster than that.” The female passenger’s attorney, Dale Galipo, described her injuries as “life-altering” and asserted that the shooting was unjustified .

The Barstow Police Department has initiated an internal investigation into the incident and is cooperating with external agencies to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The department has not released the names of the officers involved or confirmed whether they knew Yarber’s identity at the time of the encounter. Yarber had prior convictions for escaping police and misdemeanor domestic violence and was on probation at the time .

This incident has sparked renewed discussions about police use of force and accountability, particularly in communities of color. Community leaders and civil rights advocates are calling for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served. The Barstow Police Department has pledged to keep the public informed as the investigation progresses.

Man Dies After Suicide Attempt During Standoff with Massillon Police and SWAT

MASSILLON, OH – A tragic incident unfolded on Monday evening in Massillon, resulting in the death of a man following a standoff with local police and a regional SWAT team.

According to the Massillon Police Department (MPD), officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of 3rd Street NE around 5:00 p.m. for a welfare check. The department had received a call expressing concern for the wellbeing of the occupant, prompting law enforcement to intervene.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a man in distress. MPD reports that their officers attempted to engage the individual and offered him assistance, seeking to resolve the matter peacefully. However, despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, tensions began to rise, prompting a request for additional resources.

As the situation intensified, the Canton Regional SWAT Team was called to the scene for support. Neighbors reported seeing numerous law enforcement vehicles, including SWAT trucks, converging on the normally quiet residential street. Authorities closed off the area as they worked to contain the unfolding standoff, urging bystanders to remain indoors and avoid the vicinity.

Despite the presence of trained crisis negotiators and tactical teams, the situation took a devastating turn around 7:00 p.m. Police say the man attempted to take his own life during the standoff. Emergency medical personnel on standby at the scene quickly provided aid, and the man was transported to a nearby hospital.

Tragically, despite the medical team’s efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arrival.

The identity of the individual has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Authorities have not disclosed further details about what led to the welfare check, or what might have contributed to the escalation of events.

Massillon Police, in conjunction with the Canton Regional SWAT Team, are continuing their investigation into the incident. The department has stated that body-worn camera footage and official reports will be reviewed as part of the internal process to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the standoff and subsequent suicide attempt.

“This is a heartbreaking situation,” said a representative from MPD. “Our officers responded with the intent to provide help. Unfortunately, the outcome was not what anyone hoped for. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the individual involved.”

Community members have begun expressing their condolences on social media, with many urging greater support and awareness for mental health issues. The incident has reignited discussions on the need for expanded mental health resources and crisis intervention programs within the community.

  • Woman Facing Serious Charges After Victim Shot in the Face in Harrisburg

Woman Facing Serious Charges After Victim Shot in the Face in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, PA — A 30-year-old woman is now facing serious charges after a violent shooting incident that left a victim critically injured in Harrisburg on Monday afternoon. The Harrisburg Police Department (HPD) confirmed that the shooting occurred just before 4:00 p.m., sending shockwaves through a normally quiet neighborhood and raising concerns over escalating violence in the area.

According to HPD officials, the female victim was shot in the face during a confrontation. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she remains in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released her name, but she and her boyfriend reportedly identified the alleged shooter as Amy N. Tolley, a Harrisburg resident with a disturbing criminal history.

    Suspect Identified and Apprehended

Amy Tolley, 30, was quickly identified by both the victim and her boyfriend as the shooter. HPD detectives acted on this information, and Tolley was taken into custody within hours of the incident. She now faces a slew of charges, including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and illegal possession of a firearm.

Police have not yet released a motive for the attack, but sources close to the investigation say the shooting may have stemmed from a personal dispute. Witnesses described a brief but intense altercation between Tolley and the victim moments before the shot rang out.

“This was a targeted attack,” said an HPD spokesperson. “There is no indication that this was a random act of violence. Our officers acted quickly thanks to the detailed statements from the victim and her boyfriend, which were instrumental in identifying and arresting the suspect.”

    A Troubling Criminal Past

This is not the first time Amy Tolley has faced serious criminal allegations. In 2014, when she was just 19 years old, Tolley was charged with attempted murder in a separate incident involving a violent stabbing. According to court records, Tolley stabbed another woman during an altercation, leaving her severely injured. While the outcome of that case remains sealed due to legal technicalities involving Tolley’s age at the time, the 2014 incident painted a disturbing portrait of a young woman with a volatile temperament and a history of violence.

Neighbors who knew Tolley described her as “troubled” and often withdrawn, while others claimed she had frequent outbursts and erratic behavior.

“It’s frightening to know she was capable of something like this again,” said a neighbor who asked not to be identified. “After what happened years ago, we all hoped she would get the help she needed. Clearly, that didn’t happen.”

    Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

The shooting has reignited community concerns about repeat offenders and mental health support in the city. Local leaders and advocacy groups have called for a deeper examination of how individuals with violent histories are monitored and rehabilitated after initial charges.

“We need to do better at addressing the root causes of violent behavior and ensuring that individuals who pose a continued threat to the community are not allowed to slip through the cracks,” said Councilmember Denise Warren. “This is a tragic example of what can happen when past warning signs are ignored.”

The Harrisburg Police Department is continuing its investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting, including video footage or eyewitness accounts, to come forward.

Amy N. Tolley is currently being held at the Dauphin County Prison without bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month. If convicted of the current charges, Tolley could face decades in prison.

As the victim fights for her life, the community awaits justice — and answers — in a case that highlights both personal tragedy and broader systemic issues.
