LEESBURG, FL — Community in Shock After Arrest in Fatal Shooting of 20-Year-Old Dontae Copeland

LEESBURG, FL — A tragic act of violence has shaken the Leesburg community to its core after the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Dontae D. Copeland, a young man described by those who knew him as kind-hearted, full of potential, and deeply loved by his family and friends.

The Leesburg Police Department has confirmed Copeland as the victim of a deadly incident that unfolded earlier this week. Police responded to reports of a shooting in a local neighborhood and, upon arrival, found Copeland suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

In a startling development, police announced that the suspect in the case, 18-year-old Kameryn Pickard, was turned in by his own father. Authorities have since charged Pickard with Murder and Conspiracy, according to official jail records. He remains in custody at the Lake County Jail, where he awaits a bond hearing.

    Community Reeling from Violence

The death of Dontae Copeland has left friends, neighbors, and the broader Leesburg community grappling with grief and confusion. Social media has been filled with tributes, many highlighting Copeland’s positive demeanor and his efforts to make a better life for himself and those around him.

“Dontae was a good kid—always respectful, always smiling,” said family friend Marsha Taylor. “It’s hard to understand how something like this could happen. He didn’t deserve this.”

Community members have gathered for impromptu vigils and have called for increased efforts to curb gun violence and reach at-risk youth before tragedy strikes.

“Our young people are dying, and we have to ask ourselves why,” said local pastor Rev. Allen Boyd. “The pain in this city is real, and we need to come together, not just in grief but in action.”

    Investigation and Arrest

While details surrounding the motive remain limited due to the active investigation, police confirmed that Kameryn Pickard’s involvement came to light with the help of his father, who made the difficult but honorable decision to alert authorities. The specifics of the conspiracy charge have not been disclosed, but investigators suggest that others may have been aware of or involved in planning the act.

Leesburg Police Chief Rob Hicks commended the department’s detectives for their swift action and thanked the community for its cooperation. He also acknowledged the emotional complexity surrounding the suspect’s surrender.

“We recognize this case is difficult for many, including the families on both sides,” Chief Hicks stated. “This is a heartbreaking situation, but our duty is to seek justice for Dontae and ensure the safety of our community.”

    A Life Remembered

Dontae Copeland’s death comes as a profound loss not only to his family but to a generation of young people striving to find their place in a world too often disrupted by violence. Friends say he had dreams of attending college and was working toward getting his own apartment. He enjoyed music, basketball, and spending time with his younger siblings, who looked up to him.

“He was more than a statistic. He was a big brother, a loyal friend, and a son with a future,” said his cousin, Terrence Williams.

His family is currently working with local organizers to plan a public memorial service and vigil in his honor, inviting the community to come together and celebrate the life he lived.

    Ongoing Investigation

The Leesburg Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. They are urging anyone with additional information about the incident or possible accomplices to contact Leesburg PD at (352) 728-9860 or leave anonymous tips via Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).

In the wake of such a devastating loss, the city of Leesburg is reminded once again of the urgency to address violence at its roots, to support families in crisis, and to offer young people alternatives, resources, and a sense of purpose before more lives are lost.

Rest in Peace, Dontae D. Copeland.
Gone too soon, but remembered always.

The fatal accident occurred on Friday evening, leaving family, friends, and neighbors in mourning as they struggle to process the sudden and devastating loss.

Authorities responded to the crash site shortly after it was reported, finding a severely damaged vehicle and Danielski unresponsive inside. Despite the swift efforts of emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office later confirmed her identity and notified her loved ones.

While the specific cause of the crash remains under investigation, early reports suggest that no other vehicles were involved and that Danielski may have lost control of her car for reasons still being determined. Investigators are examining possible contributing factors such as speed, road conditions, and medical issues, but have not ruled anything out at this time.

The location of the crash—within a quiet residential section of Rancho Cordova—has left many stunned. Residents in the area reported hearing a loud collision and rushing outside, only to find the aftermath of a life-altering event. Many gathered to express condolences, laying flowers at the site and reflecting on Danielski’s life and presence in the community.

GRESHAM, Ore. — District Attorney Rules Deputy-Involved Shooting of Armed Suspect Justified; Community Mourns Tragic Loss

GRESHAM, Ore. — A high-tension police incident that ended in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old suspect in Gresham has been officially ruled as justified by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, according to findings released this week.

The shooting occurred following a frantic emergency call on Northeast 162nd Avenue near Glisan Street, where a violent altercation had reportedly broken out between Ladarius Collins, the suspect, and another individual. In the moments before law enforcement arrived, multiple 911 callers pleaded for immediate police intervention as the situation escalated dangerously.

“Oh my gosh, no, don’t do it, don’t do it! Please get the cops here. He’s going to shoot this guy,” a panicked voice said in newly released 911 audio, painting a vivid picture of the chaos unfolding on scene.

Suspect Armed and Violent Prior to Police Arrival

Investigators confirmed that Ladarius Collins, 21, was armed with a loaded handgun and had already pistol-whipped another man before attempting to flee the scene. The confrontation quickly turned into a foot pursuit, with Collins fleeing across backyards and alleyways toward NE 167th Avenue and NE Everett Court, triggering concern and fear in the quiet residential neighborhood.

“I’ve been here six years, and this has never happened before,” said local resident Trudy Smith, whose home was just feet from where the chase occurred.
“It was pretty intense, pretty scary for this neighborhood,” added another neighbor, noting how close the danger came to their doorstep.

    Fatal Encounter with Law Enforcement

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Suboh eventually located Collins, confronting him near the end of the chase. According to body camera footage and witness accounts, Collins refused multiple commands to drop his weapon. Instead, he reportedly pointed the handgun toward the deputy, prompting Suboh to fire six rounds.

Police on the scene immediately moved in and attempted to secure Collins and render aid. Officers recovered the loaded firearm within reach of the suspect and urged him to comply and allow medics to help.

“We want to help you,” officers can be heard saying, offering medical assistance even as they maintained caution due to the weapon’s presence.

Collins was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. An autopsy revealed he had been struck by a single bullet, which entered behind his left shoulder.

DA: Use of Deadly Force Was Lawful

Following a thorough investigation and review of all available evidence, including body-worn camera footage, 911 calls, forensic analysis, and witness statements, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office concluded that the use of deadly force by Deputy Suboh was justified under Oregon law.

District Attorney Nathan Vasquez acknowledged the painful outcome of the incident in a public statement:

“Mr. Collins’ death was tragic, and its impact on the family and community cannot be understated. I am deeply sorry for their loss.”

While the DA’s decision affirms the legality of the deputy’s actions, Vasquez also emphasized the human cost of such tragedies, noting that no loss of life occurs in isolation or without consequence to loved ones and the broader community.

    Community Response and Broader Context

In the wake of the shooting, some members of the community have expressed both sorrow and frustration—not only for the loss of a young life, but also for the continued presence of gun violence in neighborhoods struggling with safety and trust in law enforcement.

Faith leaders and local activists have called for increased investment in youth mentorship, mental health intervention, and de-escalation training, with many viewing the tragedy as another example of systemic failure on multiple levels.

“We must address the conditions that create violence in our communities,” said one advocate during a vigil held near the scene. “We can’t arrest or shoot our way out of trauma.”

    Looking Ahead

Deputy Suboh remains on active duty, and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office has stated that he complied fully with department policy throughout the incident. No charges will be filed.

A formal inquest or community forum may be organized in the coming weeks to provide further transparency and space for public dialogue.

As Gresham and the larger Portland-area community continue to process the events of June 27, the shooting of Ladarius Collins stands as a somber reminder of the fragile and often dangerous intersection between crime, policing, and public safety.

If you have questions or concerns about this case, contact the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office or the Sheriff’s Office for further information.

  • Detroit Community Devastated After Park Shooting Claims Lives of Child and Teen Hero

Detroit Community Devastated After Park Shooting Claims Lives of Child and Teen Hero

Detroit Community Devastated After Park Shooting Claims Lives of Child and Teen Hero

DETROIT, MI — A somber cloud has settled over Detroit’s east side as a community mourns the devastating loss of two young lives following a tragic shooting Friday evening near Denby High School. What began as a seemingly ordinary summer night in the park ended in horror when gunfire erupted near Kelly and Morang, leaving 4-year-old Samir Josiah Grubbs and 18-year-old Davyion dead, and a 17-year-old male hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

Police say the violence stemmed from a verbal argument that escalated uncontrollably, resulting in multiple shots fired in the direction of a group of young people enjoying the park. Two suspects have since been taken into custody as the investigation continues.

Innocence Lost: Remembering Samir Josiah Grubbs

Samir Grubbs, described by family as a joyful and spirited little boy, had come to the park simply to play. His aunt, Bernice Shanon, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, refusing to let his identity be lost in the headlines:

“Departed this life too soon, he just wanted to play. Please say his name: Samir Josiah Grubbs. Not just ‘the 4-year-old.’ Gone too soon. Forever 4.”

Community members have responded by creating a growing memorial of balloons, teddy bears, and candles near the playground, many with messages scrawled in crayon and chalk by other children — a haunting contrast to the violence that ended his life.

A Teen’s Final Act of Bravery

The second victim, 18-year-old Davyion, is being remembered not only as a beloved son, student, and friend — but as a hero. According to a deeply emotional tribute posted by his mother, Davyion made the ultimate sacrifice:

“They started shooting and my son pushed his friend out the way and took the bullets to the chest… he saved his friend’s life. My son always was saving the world.”

Loved ones say Davyion had recently graduated high school and was looking forward to starting a new chapter. He was known for his independence, creativity, and quiet courage. His former dean, Toson Knight, shared a heartfelt memory:

“Davyion was one of my students. He rode his skateboard to school, unbothered by what anyone thought. That was him — fearless, free, and always true to himself.”

His actions in his final moments have only deepened the respect and admiration felt by those who knew him.

Community Outcry: “The Violence Has to Stop”

The loss of yet another child to gun violence has reignited pleas for peace and reform. Reverend W.J. Rideout III, a longtime faith leader and anti-violence advocate, expressed profound sorrow at the tragedy:

“In all my 33 years of pastoring, this is the 3rd baby I have to eulogize. The violence has to stop. Innocent children are falling due to senseless killing.”

Civic and faith leaders across Detroit are calling for expanded youth services, increased community policing efforts, and conflict resolution programs to prevent further tragedies.

    Ongoing Investigation

Detroit Police have confirmed that two individuals are in custody in connection with the shooting. However, the investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information, videos, or witness accounts to come forward.

“This is a tragedy that could have been prevented,” a DPD spokesperson said. “We are committed to ensuring justice is served, but we also need the community’s help.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit Police Department or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

    A City in Mourning

As the families of Samir and Davyion begin to plan funerals for two lives taken far too soon, Detroit finds itself once again grappling with the devastating consequences of gun violence. Grief counselors have been dispatched to local schools and youth centers, and city officials are planning a vigil in the coming days to honor the victims.

In a community already burdened by trauma, this latest tragedy feels especially heavy. Samir’s innocence and Davyion’s bravery will not be forgotten — their names now etched into the hearts of a city desperate for peace, and determined to stop the cycle of violence.

    “He just wanted to play.”
“He died saving someone else’s life.”
Two reasons why Detroit must do better.

As law enforcement works to address the root causes of such violence, local leaders are urging community members to speak out early if they see signs of conflict or emotional distress among peers or loved ones.

Aultman Hospital Employee Shot During Struggle with Combative Patient: Suspect in Custody

Canton, Ohio An Aultman Hospital employee was shot Friday night during a chaotic incident that unfolded inside the hospital when a combative patient overpowered a security officer and discharged a weapon, striking a technician. Authorities have since arrested the suspect, identified as James Fair, and charged him with multiple felony offenses following the violent confrontation.

    Incident Unfolds Inside Hospital

According to a Canton Police report, the altercation began shortly before 8:00 p.m. when James Fair, who was under observation at Aultman Hospital, became increasingly agitated and combative. During the escalation, Fair reportedly engaged in a physical struggle with a hospital security guard, during which he was able to gain control of the officer’s holstered firearm.

In the struggle, Fair fired a single round, which struck a hospital technician—described by 911 callers as a nurse technician—in the abdomen. Emergency response was swift, and Aultman Health later confirmed the injured technician is a member of their staff and currently in stable condition following emergency medical treatment.

Staff Response and Law Enforcement Involvement

Hospital staff acted quickly to regain control of the weapon and restrain Fair, holding him until officers with the Canton Police Department arrived on the scene. According to the report, Fair continued to resist officers, yelling incoherently and physically struggling as police placed him in handcuffs and leg restraints before escorting him from the hospital.

Officers transported Fair to a police cruiser and later to the Stark County Jail, where he reportedly continued acting erratically, talking to himself, yelling at no one in particular, and repeatedly banging his head against the divider inside the vehicle.

Fair is now facing three counts of felonious assault and one count of aggravated robbery, stemming from both the shooting of the hospital employee and his efforts to seize the security guard’s weapon during the struggle.

    Investigation and Evidence

The security officer involved in the struggle told investigators that Fair suddenly grabbed for the weapon while it was still holstered. As the officer tried to prevent Fair from taking full control, the firearm discharged during the struggle.

Police have secured the weapon, along with additional security gear, and are analyzing evidence collected at the scene. That evidence includes:

    • The fired bullet
    • The victim’s bloodied clothing
    • The security guard’s equipment
    • Security camera footage from inside the hospital
    • Witness statements from both involved security officers and nearby hospital personnel

Authorities say that the entire incident was captured on hospital surveillance cameras, which will be reviewed in full as part of the investigation.

    Hospital and Community Response

Aultman Health released a statement acknowledging the incident and confirming that the injured staff member is being cared for and is expected to recover. The hospital commended the professionalism and swift response of both hospital staff and law enforcement, which prevented further injury or loss of life.

“This was a terrifying situation for everyone involved,” said an Aultman representative. “We are incredibly grateful to the staff who intervened so quickly and to Canton Police for their fast and effective response.”

Security protocols at the hospital are now under review to determine how Fair was able to access the guard’s weapon and whether additional safety measures need to be implemented to protect patients, staff, and visitors.

    Ongoing Legal Proceedings

James Fair remains in custody at Stark County Jail. His mental and physical state is expected to be evaluated as part of the judicial process, especially in light of his continued erratic behavior following his arrest. A court appearance is anticipated in the coming days, where bond may be set and further legal proceedings initiated.
