    OWENSBORO, Ky. — Updated July 1: The Daviess County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed in a Sunday night shooting on Hughes Avenue as 30-year-old Joshua Hardison, a resident of Owensboro. Authorities say Hardison’s body has been transported to the medical examiner’s office in Louisville for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.

    The other victim in the incident, 52-year-old Kelly Anderson, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and is currently recovering. Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and she remains under medical care at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

    The shooting took place just before midnight on Sunday, June 30, in the 1800 block of Hughes Avenue. According to the Owensboro Police Department (OPD), officers responded to multiple reports of a disturbance and gunfire at an apartment complex in the area. Upon arrival, officers located both victims inside the residence.

    According to police, Kelly Anderson was found in the living room, wounded but conscious. She was quickly transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, Joshua Hardison was discovered in a bedroom, also suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

    Early Investigation Suggests Forced Entry and Confrontation

    OPD detectives and evidence technicians with the Criminal Investigations Division and Evidence Collection Unit responded to the scene shortly after the incident.     As we navigate this heartbreak, we find strength in each other and in the love and support of those who also mourn his passing. To those who knew and loved Mills, thank you for holding space with us in this time of loss. Your prayers, your presence, and your stories bring comfort amid the sorrow.

    Though our hearts are broken, we will carry Mills with us always. In the sun on our faces, the sound of a favorite song, or a laugh that bubbles up unexpectedly—we will remember him. We will honor him. And we will never, ever forget him.
