The accident occurred on a Sunday evening, just after 7:00 p.m., and involved multiple vehicles, including a Honda motorcycle, a Mercedes SUV, and a Toyota sedan.

Tahual-Lopez, who was riding the Honda motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Emergency responders from the Bluffton Township Fire District, Bluffton Police Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol, Beaufort County EMS, and the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office worked at the scene until late Sunday night. The driver of the Mercedes SUV was entrapped and had to be extricated by firefighters using heavy equipment before being transported to Memorial Health in Savannah with moderate injuries. The driver of the Toyota sedan was also taken to Memorial Health for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.

Corey Boyd is among ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans on May 16, 2025. The escape involved breaching a wall behind a toilet in a cell, exploiting defective locks and inoperable security cameras. The inmates used tools to cut through steel bars and scaled a barbed wire fence to flee the facility. The escape was not discovered until a routine headcount at 8:30 a.m., approximately seven hours later.     

Authorities have indicated that the escape was likely facilitated by inside help. Sterling Williams, a 33-year-old maintenance worker at the jail, has been arrested for allegedly aiding the escape by turning off the water supply to a toilet, allowing inmates to remove it without triggering a flood. As of now, four of the ten escapees have been recaptured, while six remain at large, including Boyd. The fugitives are considered armed and dangerous, and a combined reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information leading to their capture.
