  • Jared Matthew McGee, 41, passed away peacefully at his home in Loganville, Georgia, on April 29, 2025, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Jared Matthew McGee, 41, passed away peacefully at his home in Loganville, Georgia, on April 29, 2025, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Though his time on earth was tragically cut short, Jared’s life was marked by an abundance of love, kindness, dedication, and an enduring spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jared was born on July 25, 1983, in Snellville, Georgia, to William “Bill” and Sue McGee. From an early age, he exuded a warmth and quiet strength that would come to define the man he became. A lifelong Georgia native, Jared was deeply rooted in his community and in the values of hard work, family, and faith.

Jared was a 2001 graduate of Brookwood High School and went on to earn a degree in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University. His professional journey led him to a successful career in IT and cybersecurity, where he was known not only for his technical expertise but also for his integrity, dependability, and collaborative spirit. Jared took pride in his work and was often the person colleagues turned to when challenges arose, knowing they could rely on his calm, problem-solving nature.

On October 3, 2010, Jared married the love of his life, Lauren Clay McGee, in a ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Over their 14 years of marriage, Jared and Lauren built a life grounded in mutual respect, shared dreams, and unwavering support. Their love was quiet yet powerful, and it radiated most clearly through their devotion to raising their son, Caleb Lyle McGee.

Becoming a father was one of Jared’s proudest accomplishments. He poured his heart into fatherhood, always present, always encouraging, and always modeling what it meant to be a good man. From Saturday morning pancakes to building LEGO creations on the living room floor, Jared cherished every moment with Caleb and instilled in him a deep sense of curiosity, kindness, and resilience.

Jared’s passions extended beyond his family and career. He was an avid outdoorsman who found peace in hiking, fishing, and exploring Georgia’s trails and lakes. He loved classic rock music, woodworking, and cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs. Friends often described Jared as someone who could fix anything—whether it was a broken fence or a friend’s heavy heart. He gave freely of his time, expected little in return, and lived with a humility that belied his depth of character.

Throughout his illness, Jared remained steadfast in his faith and positive in his outlook. He faced each challenge with courage, never allowing his diagnosis to define him. Instead, he continued to lead with love, grace, and gratitude—leaving an indelible mark on everyone who journeyed with him.

Jared is survived by his beloved wife, Lauren McGee, and their 10-year-old son, Caleb; his parents, Bill and Sue McGee of Grayson, Georgia; his sister, Emily McGee Patterson (Scott) of Lawrenceville; his nephews, Nathan and Luke Patterson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who became extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lyle and Margaret McGee and James and Anna Clay.

A celebration of Jared’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Loganville, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor Daniel Reeves, with music provided by the church choir and members of the McGee family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Caleb’s Education Fund (details to follow) or to the American Cancer Society in Jared’s memory, in the hope of helping others continue the fight that he so bravely waged.

Though Jared is no longer with us in body, his spirit endures in the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the legacy of kindness, strength, and faith he leaves behind. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

Jared’s life was a beautiful expression of love in its purest form. His love for his family was profound and enduring—he held them close in his heart, and every decision he made was with their well-being in mind. His curious mind and soulful presence made him not only a good friend, but an irreplaceable confidant. He approached life with a mix of humility and grace that made people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Jared’s departure leaves behind a profound void. Yet in this loss, we also recognize the powerful legacy he has left behind—a legacy built not of material achievements, but of love, kindness, and the enduring impact of a compassionate heart. He showed us how to live with empathy, how to give without asking for anything in return, and how to be present for one another in the truest sense of the word.

As Jared leaves this earthly realm, his spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, forever illuminating the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though he is no longer with us in physical form, his essence lingers—in the laughter of friends, the comfort of memories, and the quiet moments when we feel his presence most.

To those mourning his loss, we ask that you keep Jared’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this deeply difficult time. May they find solace in the outpouring of love from the community and strength in knowing that Jared’s life—though too short—was a radiant light in the world.

Rest in eternal peace, Jared. You will be missed more than words can ever express, and loved always beyond measure.

  • Francisco, CA — Eastbound Lanes on Bay Bridge Reopen Following Police Activity Near Treasure Island

Francisco, CA — Eastbound Lanes on Bay Bridge Reopen Following Police Activity Near Treasure Island

Francisco, CA — All eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge have been fully reopened following a temporary shutdown on Wednesday afternoon due to police activity in the vicinity of Treasure Island, according to officials. The closure, which lasted several hours, caused significant traffic congestion throughout the Bay Area as commuters were rerouted or forced to wait for clearance. Although normal operations have resumed, authorities are advising motorists to remain cautious and expect residual traffic delays during the evening commute.

The incident began early Wednesday afternoon when law enforcement responded to an unspecified situation near the Treasure Island off-ramp, located mid-span on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. While the nature of the police activity has not been publicly detailed, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and San Francisco Police Department confirmed that the eastbound lanes were shut down as a precaution while officers investigated.

Video footage from traffic cameras and eyewitness accounts posted to social media showed a large police presence near the island, with patrol cars blocking lanes and officers redirecting traffic. The bridge, a critical connector between San Francisco and the East Bay, quickly became gridlocked, with delays stretching for miles. Many drivers reported being stuck on the bridge for extended periods without updates, leading to widespread frustration and confusion during one of the busiest travel periods of the day.

By late afternoon, officials confirmed that the situation had been resolved and all eastbound lanes had reopened. “We have concluded our police activity and all eastbound traffic on the Bay Bridge has resumed,” said a spokesperson from the CHP. “We thank the public for their patience and cooperation as we worked to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”

Despite the reopening, the traffic backlog created during the closure has continued to impact flow, and commuters are being urged to allow for additional travel time or consider alternative routes if possible. Public transit options, including BART and ferry services, saw increased ridership during the disruption, as some travelers sought ways to bypass the shutdown.

Transportation authorities are coordinating efforts to ease the backlog and restore normal traffic patterns. Digital highway signs along key corridors have been updated to reflect the current conditions, and tow trucks were deployed to remove any disabled vehicles that may have contributed to lingering delays.

No injuries or arrests have been reported in connection with the incident, and police have not released further details pending an ongoing investigation. Officials stated that more information will be made available as it becomes appropriate.

The Bay Bridge, officially known as the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, is a vital artery for daily commuters, transporting hundreds of thousands of vehicles each day. Temporary shutdowns of this magnitude are rare and typically reserved for emergencies or high-risk situations.

As the evening rush hour continues, authorities are encouraging patience and vigilance from drivers. “Safety remains our top priority,” said the CHP. “We urge all drivers to stay informed through local traffic reports and obey all posted signs and instructions from officers on the scene.”

Residents and commuters are encouraged to monitor updates from local news outlets and official transportation channels for the latest developments.

  • FOSTER CITY, CA — A Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of a Beloved Police Sergeant

FOSTER CITY, CA — A Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of a Beloved Police Sergeant

A somber wave has fallen over the Foster City community and its Police Department as they mourn the heartbreaking loss of one of their own. A dedicated police sergeant, whose name has not been released out of respect for the grieving family, tragically died by suicide on Monday morning after what officials described as a long and private battle with mental health challenges.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the tight-knit city, where the officer was not only a respected law enforcement leader but also a mentor, friend, and committed public servant. In a statement released late Monday afternoon, the Foster City Police Department confirmed the devastating news, expressing deep sorrow and solidarity with the family, colleagues, and loved ones left behind.

“This is an incredibly painful time for all of us,” said Police Chief Tracy Avelar. “We lost not just a colleague, but a friend and a hero who gave everything to serve this community. His passing is a sobering reminder of the emotional toll that comes with this profession.”

According to the department, the sergeant had served Foster City for over 15 years and had risen through the ranks through sheer dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. Known for his calm demeanor and sharp instincts, he played a pivotal role in both day-to-day operations and larger-scale investigations. Officers who worked closely with him described him as a quiet pillar of strength—always the first to offer guidance, support, or a kind word to younger recruits and seasoned veterans alike.

His death comes amid growing national awareness about the mental health struggles faced by those in law enforcement. Experts have long warned about the compounding stress, trauma, and emotional fatigue experienced by police officers, often in silence due to a culture of stoicism and stigma around seeking help.

“This is not just a loss for Foster City. It’s a reminder to every department across the country that behind the badge is a human being,” said Dr. Elena Cruz, a Bay Area clinical psychologist who works with first responders. “We need to keep having open conversations about mental wellness, and we need to provide better support systems that are accessible and judgment-free.”

In the wake of this tragedy, city leaders and community members are rallying around the Police Department, offering condolences, food, letters, and emotional support. The City Council held a moment of silence at its Tuesday evening meeting, while local churches and civic groups have organized vigils and mental health awareness events in the sergeant’s honor.

Mayor Catherine Mahaney issued a heartfelt statement: “Today, we mourn the passing of a true public servant whose life was marked by courage and compassion. Our thoughts are with his family, the Police Department, and everyone touched by his kindness. Let us honor his legacy by fostering a culture of care—for our officers, our neighbors, and ourselves.”

The department has activated its peer support teams and partnered with licensed grief counselors to assist staff members processing the loss. Additionally, a dedicated mental health support line has been established for first responders in the surrounding region, underscoring the urgency of preventative care.

Though the identity of the sergeant remains confidential at the family’s request, tributes have begun to appear throughout the city—from flowers placed on patrol cars to handwritten notes posted on the doors of the police station. In one moving display, a group of children from a local elementary school created a banner reading “Thank You for Keeping Us Safe,” now displayed in the department’s front lobby.

The Foster City Police Department has pledged to continue supporting the sergeant’s family in the days and weeks ahead and is planning a private memorial service in coordination with the family.

If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, you are not alone. Help is available. Please call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 for confidential support 24 hours a day.

As the city mourns this painful loss, it also turns toward healing—with a renewed commitment to compassion, understanding, and the well-being of those who serve and protect.
