  • Arizona Mother Accused of Attempting to Kill Special Needs Son, Biting Daughter Who Tried to Help

Arizona Mother Accused of Attempting to Kill Special Needs Son, Biting Daughter Who Tried to Help

In a harrowing and deeply disturbing case out of Mesa, Arizona, a mother stands accused of attempting to murder her 8-year-old special needs son, allegedly making several gruesome attempts on his life before being stopped. The incident has left a quiet neighborhood reeling, a family fractured, and the community searching for answers.

According to Mesa Police, 36-year-old Erica Encinas faces a string of serious charges including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and child abuse. These charges stem from a domestic violence call that came early Sunday morning, prompting officers to respond to a home in the usually peaceful neighborhood.

Upon arrival, officers found an 8-year-old boy, badly injured but alive. Police say the child, who has special needs, was the target of a chilling series of attempts on his life carried out by his own mother. According to prosecutors, Encinas admitted to trying to kill her son multiple times.

During a court appearance on Tuesday, Maricopa County prosecutor Ashley Stetson laid out the grisly details of what occurred inside the home. “First, she tried to hit him over the head with a rock,” Stetson said. “That did not kill the victim, so then, she tried to smother him with a trash bag. That did not work, Your Honor. Then, she tried to choke him with a rosary.”

The horror did not end there. When the boy’s 12-year-old sister saw what was happening and ran in to help her younger brother, Encinas allegedly turned on her as well—biting her in the struggle. Authorities confirmed the young girl’s injury and described her actions as an act of bravery, intervening in what could have become a fatal attack.

The 8-year-old was quickly rushed to a local hospital where, thankfully, his injuries were described as non-life-threatening. Still, the emotional and psychological scars for both children will likely run deep.

Perhaps most chilling of all was Encinas’ reported confession to police that she had been planning to kill her son for some time. She even admitted she had previously considered drowning him in a canal.

Neighbors say the family had appeared, on the surface, to be typical. Jay Magana, who lives across the street, shared his disbelief. “We’re neighbors… and sometimes, families fight,” he said. “Most of the time, I see the kids playing outside, being good, and we wave when we go by. But when you hear something like that, it’s shocking.”

According to Magana and others, police had been called to the home on multiple occasions, indicating that there were warning signs, though perhaps not ones that could have foretold such a terrifying episode.

As of now, authorities have not confirmed whether Encinas was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the attack, nor have they indicated if she suffers from any diagnosed mental illness. These questions will likely be a central part of the investigation going forward.

Encinas is currently being held at a Maricopa County jail on a $250,000 cash bond. It is unclear whether she has retained legal representation.

The case has sparked community discussion around the intersections of mental health, domestic violence, and the unique challenges of parenting children with special needs. As investigators continue to gather evidence and the judicial process unfolds, the focus remains on the welfare of the two children who endured what no child ever should.

The Arizona Department of Child Safety is reportedly involved, and the children have been removed from the home. Their future will depend on the outcome of the legal proceedings and the support systems put in place to help them recover.

This tragic case serves as a grim reminder that even in seemingly quiet neighborhoods, silent suffering can exist behind closed doors.

  • BringMannyHome: Search Intensifies for Missing Teen Jordan Manny Collins

BringMannyHome: Search Intensifies for Missing Teen Jordan Manny Collins

It has now been nearly three agonizing weeks since Jordan Manny Collins, a beloved 16-year-old from Columbia Heights, Minnesota, was last seen. The silence surrounding his disappearance has been deafening, and the worry in his family’s hearts only grows heavier with each passing day.

Jordan—affectionately known as Manny—was last seen on May 8 in the vicinity of University Avenue and 49th Avenue NE in Columbia Heights. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Despite extensive searches and growing community concern, there has been no confirmed sighting of him since that day.

Authorities, including the Columbia Heights Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, held a press briefing to update the public on Manny’s case. At the core of the update was a chilling new development: Manny may have gone missing against his will.

“Sixteen-year-olds don’t just disconnect the way Manny did,” said Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise. “We’re all convinced he disappeared against his will.”

The sheriff’s office, alongside agencies such as the Minnesota BCA and the FBI, is now pursuing multiple leads. A person of interest has been identified, though no further details have been released to the public.

In a deeply emotional moment at the news conference, Manny’s mother, Ashley Berry, made a heartfelt plea to the public—and to her son.

“Manny, if you’re somewhere that you’re capable of listening to this, or you see me—just know that I love you. And you know how much I’m worried. You are loved. A lot of people are looking for you.”

Ashley shared that Manny had been staying with his father to focus on improving his grades but was planning to return to her home for the summer. He had a job lined up at Planet Fitness and was looking forward to a fresh start. All signs pointed to a motivated and grounded teenager—making his sudden disappearance even more alarming.

“Manny has never run away before. This is unlike him,” Ashley said. “If anyone has a heart and a soul and has seen anything, please come forward.”

Another disturbing detail: Manny’s phone hasn’t pinged since May 11—Mother’s Day—a date that only intensifies the pain for his mother. In addition, CashApp transfers Ashley continued to send her son as his allowance remain untouched.

Local law enforcement has conducted multiple searches in and around the area of University Avenue and 49th Avenue, but they are now turning to the public for crucial help. Businesses and residents in the area are being asked to check surveillance video from May 8 through May 12 for anything unusual or that may show Manny’s whereabouts. Even the smallest detail could be the missing puzzle piece investigators need.

    Sheriff Wise emphasized:

    “Someone knows something.”

As this nightmare stretches on for the Collins family, the call to action has never been more urgent. Time matters. Awareness matters. Compassion matters.

    How You Can Help:

    • Call in any information to Anoka County Emergency Dispatch at (763) 427-1212

    • Submit surveillance footage or tips through the Sheriff’s Department’s evidence portal

    • Share Manny’s story using the hashtags:
      #JordanMannyCollins #BringMannyHome #MissingPerson #ColumbiaHeights #CrimeReelsWithJoJo #Minnesota #ColumbiaHeightsMN

This is not just another missing person case. Jordan Manny Collins is a son, a friend, a young man with dreams and a family who loves him fiercely. He is not just “lost.” He deserves to be found.

Please share. Stay alert. And help bring Manny home.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – May 28, 2025A terrifying scene unfolded Tuesday evening outside the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on City Avenue near Presidential Boulevard, as a barrage of gunfire tore through a vehicle in a shocking daylight attack that has left residents and visitors rattled.

At approximately 5:51 p.m., a Denali SUV parked near the hotel was struck by an estimated 30 rounds fired at close range. Witnesses described a chaotic moment as shots rang out in rapid succession, sending bystanders running for cover and guests inside the hotel diving to the ground.

The driver of the SUV, a 26-year-old male, miraculously escaped with only a graze wound to the hip, according to Philadelphia police. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. His identity has not been publicly released, but authorities confirmed he is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel called the incident “a brazen act of violence with no regard for public safety.” He added, “This happened during rush hour in one of the city’s busiest corridors. It’s pure luck that we aren’t reporting a loss of life today.”

According to initial reports, the assailant or assailants approached the SUV and opened fire from close proximity using what police believe may have been semi-automatic handguns or rifles. Investigators recovered dozens of shell casings at the scene and are working to determine the exact number of shooters involved. Surveillance footage from the hotel and surrounding businesses is currently being reviewed.

Police have not yet confirmed a motive, but sources familiar with the case suggest the shooting appears to be targeted, rather than random. The victim was alone in the vehicle at the time of the attack and has no known ties to the hotel or any of its patrons. Investigators are looking into the possibility of prior disputes or ongoing conflicts that may have led to the shooting.

No arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large. Authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s tip line.

    Witnesses Describe Chaos

Guests and employees at the Courtyard by Marriott described a scene of confusion and fear as the shots rang out.

“It sounded like fireworks at first, but then we realized what it really was,” said one hotel employee who asked not to be named. “People were screaming and running. It felt like something out of a movie.”

Others recalled hearing the gunfire echo through the corridor as traffic came to a standstill. “There was a guy slumped over in the SUV, and the windows were just shattered,” said a witness who had been dining nearby. “It’s insane that this could happen right in front of a hotel with families and kids around.”

Crime and Public Safety Concerns Mount

The shooting is the latest in a string of high-profile violent incidents that have raised concerns about gun violence and public safety across Philadelphia. While overall violent crime has seen fluctuations, targeted shootings and daytime attacks have continued to plague parts of the city, including commercial and residential areas previously seen as relatively safe.

City Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr., who represents the area, issued a statement Tuesday evening, saying:

“We cannot allow our neighborhoods and commercial districts to become battlegrounds. We must work together — community members, law enforcement, and policymakers — to put an end to this senseless violence.”

    Investigation Ongoing

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Group is leading the case, supported by federal partners and forensic teams. They are examining ballistic evidence, analyzing digital surveillance footage, and interviewing potential witnesses in the area.

Authorities have not yet indicated whether the shooting is connected to gang activity, drug trafficking, or personal retaliation, but they stress that no stone will be left unturned as they pursue those responsible.

    Public Appeal

Police are urging anyone with video footage, including dashcam recordings from passing vehicles, or firsthand knowledge of the shooting to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted via the PPD tip line or by calling 215-686-TIPS.

As the investigation continues, the Courtyard by Marriott remains open, though with heightened security. Hotel management has pledged to cooperate fully with law enforcement and provide any support necessary to help identify the perpetrators.

In the meantime, the community is left grappling with the aftermath of yet another senseless burst of violence — this one in broad daylight, outside a busy hotel, on a street where children, families, and commuters walk every day. For many, it’s a stark reminder of the urgent need for sustained efforts to curb gun violence in Philadelphia.

  • Infant Found Dead in Queens Apartment Was Not Killed by Dog, Medical Examiner Confirms

Infant Found Dead in Queens Apartment Was Not Killed by Dog, Medical Examiner Confirms

A tragic and deeply unsettling case in Queens has taken a dramatic turn as officials now say that an infant found dead in a local apartment earlier this week was not killed by a dog, contrary to initial reports. The revelation comes after a detailed forensic examination conducted by the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which ruled out fatal injuries consistent with a dog attack and instead pointed to other potential causes of death.

The incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon, May 25, when NYPD officers and emergency medical services responded to a frantic 911 call from an apartment located on the second floor of a residential building in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens. Upon arrival, they found a baby — identified as a 3-month-old boy — unresponsive and with visible injuries. Paramedics pronounced the child deceased at the scene.

In the early stages of the investigation, law enforcement sources stated that there were signs suggesting the family dog, a large mixed breed, might have been involved. The dog was initially seized by animal control for observation, and neighbors reported hearing screams and barking just moments before police arrived.

However, following the medical examiner’s autopsy results, authorities have now confirmed that the injuries sustained by the infant were not consistent with a dog mauling, and there were no bite marks or tearing typically associated with a fatal animal attack. Instead, the findings pointed to blunt force trauma as the likely cause of death, raising serious questions about what really happened inside the apartment that day.

The parents of the child — a 26-year-old mother and a 29-year-old father — were both present at the time of the incident, according to police. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday, but law enforcement sources say the case is now being treated as a suspicious death and a potential criminal investigation is underway. The couple has been cooperating with investigators, though authorities have not ruled out charges as they await the results of toxicology reports and further forensic analysis.

In a statement issued Tuesday night, NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban said:

“The death of a child is always a tragedy, but when it involves potential foul play, our commitment to justice is unwavering. Our detectives are working tirelessly to determine exactly what happened to this young infant.”

The case has sent shockwaves through the quiet Queens neighborhood, where residents expressed both sorrow and confusion. “We were all devastated when we heard it might have been the dog,” said one neighbor. “But now, with this news, it’s even more disturbing. That poor baby didn’t deserve this.”

Child Protective Services has reportedly been involved since the initial report, and any other children in the household — if present — have been removed as a precaution while the investigation proceeds. The family dog, previously thought to be responsible, remains in city custody but is no longer considered a threat in relation to the infant’s death.

Community leaders and advocates are urging anyone with knowledge of the family’s circumstances to come forward. Meanwhile, the tragic death has renewed calls for awareness around infant safety, home environments, and the critical importance of early intervention in households where signs of distress or neglect may exist.

Public outrage and concern are mounting, as residents await answers and justice for a life so brief and brutally ended. A makeshift memorial of stuffed animals, candles, and flowers has begun to form outside the building where the incident occurred, a silent tribute to a child whose life ended under still-mysterious and heartbreaking circumstances.

The NYPD’s Special Victims Unit and Homicide Division remain actively involved in the investigation. Authorities have promised transparency as more facts are uncovered.

For now, the city grieves the loss of an innocent life, holding its breath as detectives work to reveal the truth behind the tragedy that has left a Queens community shaken to its core.

  • Tragic Car Accident Claims Life of Hinesville Resident Dillon Parker in McIntosh County

Tragic Car Accident Claims Life of Hinesville Resident Dillon Parker in McIntosh County

Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find a blue GMC Sierra pickup truck overturned in a wooded area off the roadway. According to preliminary reports, the vehicle had rolled over multiple times before coming to rest on its roof. Tragically, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle — identified as 33-year-old Dillon Parker of Hinesville — had been ejected during the crash and fatally crushed beneath the weight of the overturned truck.

Authorities confirmed that Parker was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, a detail that investigators believe may have contributed significantly to the fatal outcome. He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol are jointly investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash. While the exact cause remains under investigation, officials have noted that road conditions, speed, and the lack of a seat belt may all have played roles in the severity of the incident.

Young Man Road, a less-traveled route known for its narrow lanes and sharp curves, has been the site of previous accidents in recent years, often involving single-vehicle incidents. Local residents have raised concerns about speeding and the lack of roadside barriers, especially during nighttime driving conditions or in inclement weather.

Parker’s sudden and tragic death has deeply impacted those who knew him. Friends and family describe him as a hardworking, kind-hearted man with a love for the outdoors and a loyal circle of friends. Social media has since been flooded with tributes expressing shock and grief over the loss.

“Dillon was one of the good ones,” wrote a longtime friend. “He’d give you the shirt off his back. This just doesn’t feel real.”

Another post read, “Rest in peace, Dillon. You left too soon. May your spirit ride free forever.”

Parker’s family, while understandably devastated, has requested privacy as they make arrangements and begin the painful process of grieving. A memorial service is expected to be announced in the coming days, and a GoFundMe page is reportedly being set up to assist with funeral costs.

The tragic accident is a stark reminder of the importance of seat belt usage, even on short trips or familiar roads. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, failure to wear a seat belt remains a leading factor in fatal crashes across the state. In 2024 alone, more than 400 unrestrained vehicle occupants lost their lives in Georgia crashes.

First responders who attended the scene have also emphasized the importance of safe driving practices, including speed management and the use of safety restraints. “It’s heartbreaking to see someone’s life cut short in this way, especially when it might have been preventable,” said one McIntosh County emergency worker. “We urge everyone to buckle up — it truly can mean the difference between life and death.”

As the investigation continues, the community of Hinesville is preparing to say goodbye to a son, a friend, and a neighbor whose life ended far too soon. Dillon Parker’s legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him, and his passing will no doubt serve as a painful but powerful reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety.

  • Anthony Daniel Rendon Takes Plea Deal in Child Sexually Abusive Material Case in Saginaw County

Anthony Daniel Rendon Takes Plea Deal in Child Sexually Abusive Material Case in Saginaw County

Saginaw, MI — May 28, 2025 :In a significant development in a disturbing case involving child sexually abusive materials, 29-year-old Anthony Daniel Rendon of Saginaw formally entered a guilty plea today in Judge Trice’s courtroom. With his attorney, Alan Crawford, by his side, Rendon pleaded guilty to two felony charges of “Child Sexually Abusive Act – Aggravated Distribution or Promotion” under Michigan law, bringing to a close one of two pending criminal cases against him.

Rendon’s plea comes as part of a negotiated agreement with prosecutors. In exchange for his guilty pleas to the two aggravated distribution charges, the prosecution has agreed to drop six other serious felony counts. Those charges, which will be formally dismissed at sentencing, include multiple counts of possession of aggravated child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit crimes with maximum penalties ranging from 10 years to life.

Charges to be dismissed upon sentencing include:

    1. Child Sexually Abusive Activity – MCL 750.145c(2) – Felony
    2. Using a Computer to Commit a Crime (Max 20 years or life) – MCL 752.797(3)(f) – Felony
    3. Aggravated Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material – MCL 750.145c(4)(a)(i) – Felony
    4. Using a Computer to Commit a Crime (Max 10–20 years) – MCL 752.797(3)(e) – Felony
    5. Aggravated Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material (Duplicate Charge) – Felony
    6. Using a Computer to Commit a Crime (Duplicate Charge) – Felony

As part of his plea agreement, Rendon will be placed on Michigan’s Sex Offender Registry (SORA) as a Tier 2 offender for a period of 25 years. Tier 2 classification typically covers offenses involving the distribution of sexually abusive material or the use of digital platforms to promote such content, especially when minors are involved.

Judge Trice confirmed that the court would adhere to the Cobbs agreement, a form of sentencing agreement recognized in Michigan that gives the defendant an understanding of their sentence prior to accepting a plea. Under this agreement, Rendon’s sentence will be capped at 36 months (three years) in prison. However, the official sentencing guidelines present a variable range — from as low as 12–24 months up to 29–57 months, depending on factors such as prior criminal history, severity of the offense, and other legal considerations.

Rendon’s sentencing has been scheduled for July 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., at which time the court will also dismiss his second, separate pending case as stipulated in the plea deal.

The case has drawn attention due to the nature of the charges and the presence of aggravating factors, including the promotion and distribution of abusive materials rather than simple possession. Prosecutors emphasized the harm inflicted not only on the victims involved in the original materials but also the continued trauma perpetuated by the dissemination of such content.

No statements were issued in court today by Rendon or his defense counsel beyond the formal entering of the plea. The courtroom remained subdued throughout the proceeding, and no victim impact statements were delivered at this stage. However, victim advocacy groups have expressed concern over plea deals in such cases, emphasizing the importance of ensuring justice while also avoiding retraumatization of victims through lengthy trials.

Once sentenced, Rendon will begin serving his prison term and be subject to mandatory sex offender registration requirements, including regular reporting, restricted access to certain employment and residency opportunities, and digital monitoring for a portion of the registration period.

The Saginaw County Prosecutor’s Office has not released further comment at this time, but sources indicate that law enforcement is continuing to investigate potential digital networks associated with the materials in this case. Officials continue to urge the public to report any suspicious online activity involving minors to the Michigan Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

The resolution of the case marks a grim chapter in local law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation in all its forms, highlighting both the capabilities of digital forensics and the complex nature of prosecuting crimes involving technology and vulnerable victims.

  • Tragedy in Mount Sheridan: Cairns Community Grieves the Loss of Beloved Couple Krystel and James Paul

Tragedy in Mount Sheridan: Cairns Community Grieves the Loss of Beloved Couple Krystel and James Paul

The Cairns community has been left heartbroken following a tragic incident that unfolded in Mount Sheridan on Tuesday evening. Krystel and James Paul, both aged 41, were found deceased in their family home, victims of an apparent murder-suicide that has shocked friends, neighbors, and the broader community. The couple, well-known and respected for their business, Chanel Jaymes Bridal Boutique, in Cairns City, were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds. Their deaths have left a profound void in the lives of those who knew them — not least their 10-year-old daughter, who played a harrowing role in the discovery of the tragedy.

According to authorities, the incident came to light after the couple’s young daughter raised the alarm. Concerned after being unable to contact her parents, she reportedly sought help from neighbors, leading to a welfare check by police at the family’s Mount Sheridan residence. What officers discovered was a devastating scene — the bodies of Krystel and James, both with gunshot wounds, lying in the home where they had once built a life and family together.

While investigations are ongoing and details are still emerging, police have stated that they are not seeking any other persons in relation to the incident. Preliminary findings suggest a domestic violence-related incident that ended in a murder-suicide. The exact sequence of events remains unclear, and authorities have urged the public to allow time for a thorough investigation as they piece together what led to such a heartbreaking outcome.

The ripple effects of the tragedy have been felt far beyond the couple’s home. Krystel and James were cherished members of the local business community. Together, they ran Chanel Jaymes Bridal Boutique, a much-loved bridal store known for its personalized service, elegant designs, and the couple’s hands-on approach. Customers often spoke of Krystel’s warmth, attention to detail, and infectious smile, while James was known as a steady presence in the background, supporting the business with quiet dedication.

Friends and clients have flooded social media with tributes, describing Krystel as a “beautiful soul” and a “light in so many lives.” One emotional post read: “Krystel made every bride feel like royalty. She made dreams come true. It’s impossible to comprehend that she’s gone.” Others remembered James as a devoted father and a hardworking partner who was deeply invested in both his family and the success of their boutique.

But it is their daughter — now suddenly and tragically orphaned — who remains at the center of community concern and compassion. Family members are reportedly rallying around the child, offering support and care during what will undoubtedly be a long and difficult journey of healing. Local organizations, including counseling services and child welfare agencies, have stepped in to ensure she is not alone in facing the immense trauma of this event.

Cairns Mayor Terry James expressed his condolences on behalf of the city, calling the deaths a “terrible and senseless loss.” He added, “Our hearts go out to their little girl, and to the extended family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Krystel and James. This tragedy has shaken our community to its core.”

The incident has also reignited discussions around domestic violence and mental health support. Advocacy groups are calling for increased awareness, early intervention programs, and greater access to crisis services — emphasizing that behind closed doors, even those who appear to have idyllic lives can be struggling in silence.

A candlelight vigil is being planned in Cairns City in the coming days, to honor the memory of Krystel and James and to bring the community together in grief and solidarity. The bridal boutique, which once symbolized joy, beginnings, and celebration, now stands as a somber reminder of a life cut short and dreams that will never be realized.

As Cairns mourns, support services have encouraged anyone affected by the tragedy to reach out. The emotional toll of such incidents can be profound and far-reaching. Crisis support lines and mental health resources have been made available to the community, with professionals emphasizing the importance of seeking help and offering help when it’s needed most.

In the wake of this tragic loss, Cairns has been united in sorrow — but also in compassion, resilience, and the determination to support one another. While the pain will linger, so too will the memory of Krystel and James Paul: a couple remembered not only for their contributions to the local business scene but for the love and beauty they brought into the lives of so many
