Marques Harris to Appeal Life Sentence in Fatal Facebook Marketplace Shooting of Pennsylvania Teen Carlos Carrazana-Ricardo

Marques Harris, a Baltimore resident, is set to appeal his conviction in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Carlos Carrazana-Ricardo, which occurred on November 26, 2023, during a Facebook Marketplace transaction that turned deadly. Harris, who was 18 at the time of the incident, was convicted in September 2024 of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and related charges. In March 2025, he was sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years, with the first five years to be served without the possibility of parole. He is currently incarcerated at the Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland .

    The Incident

On the evening of November 26, 2023, Carrazana-Ricardo and a friend traveled from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Baltimore to inspect a car listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The meeting took place in the 2700 block of Harlem Avenue. After deciding not to purchase the vehicle, the pair began to drive away. At that moment, gunfire erupted, and Carrazana-Ricardo was struck in the head. He was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he later died from his injuries .Investigators identified Harris as the seller of the vehicle through witness accounts and cellphone records. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, among other offenses .

    The Trial and Sentencing

During the trial, the prosecution argued that Harris deliberately shot at the departing vehicle, resulting in Carrazana-Ricardo’s death. The defense acknowledged Harris’s involvement but emphasized his youth, noting that he was just 18 at the time of the incident. Defense attorney Judit Otvos urged the court to consider Harris’s age and potential for rehabilitation in sentencing.

Despite these arguments, Judge Levi S. Zaslow sentenced Harris to life in prison plus 10 years, with a recommendation for participation in a youth program. The first five years of his sentence are to be served without the possibility of parole .)

    The Appeal

Harris’s legal team has announced plans to appeal the conviction and sentence. While specific grounds for the appeal have not been publicly disclosed, appeals in such cases often focus on potential procedural errors during the trial, questions about the admissibility of evidence, or arguments regarding the appropriateness of the sentence given the defendant’s age and background.

    Broader Implications

The tragic outcome of this Facebook Marketplace transaction has raised concerns about the safety of online marketplace meetups. Law enforcement agencies recommend conducting such transactions in designated “safe exchange zones,” often located at police stations, to enhance security for both buyers and sellers.(WBAL)

As Harris’s appeal progresses, the case continues to serve as a somber reminder of the potential dangers associated with online transactions and the importance of taking precautions to ensure personal safety.

  • Remembering Samuel French – A Talented Soul Gone Too Soon

Remembering Samuel French – A Talented Soul Gone Too Soon

Today, I received some incredibly sad news that has left me heartbroken. Samuel French has passed away after a battle with cancer. The weight of this loss is heavy, not only on those who knew and loved him personally, but also on the many lives he touched through his art and presence.

I had the profound honor of working with Samuel when he took on the role of Joel Sharp in my film Blood Dried Hands. It was a performance that will stay with me forever. Sam didn’t just play Joel—he became him. His dedication, raw talent, and magnetic presence elevated the film and earned him an award-winning performance. But what truly made Sam unforgettable wasn’t just what he brought to the screen; it was who he was off camera. He was gracious, humble, kind, and full of quiet strength—a joy to collaborate with and a friend to everyone on set.

Samuel was a gifted performer, no doubt, but he was also a cherished member of our Texas/Oklahoma film family. That community, bound not just by shared work but by genuine bonds of support and camaraderie, is mourning deeply today. His absence will be profoundly felt at every shoot, every wrap party, every gathering where stories are told and memories are shared.

What makes this loss all the more painful is knowing that Sam’s star was just beginning to rise. In his final years, he had started gaining the recognition he so deeply deserved. One of his most notable achievements was his role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, where he shared scenes with legends like Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons. Sam’s work in that film, and others, stood as a testament to the depth of his talent and the bright future he was building. The world was finally seeing what we had always known—that Samuel French was something truly special.

There’s an ache that comes with knowing that someone with so much left to give is gone too soon. But amid the grief, I also feel immense gratitude—for having had the chance to work with him, to know him, and to witness his light while it shone here on earth.

Rest easy, Sam. You were one of the greats—not just as an actor, but as a human being. Your legacy lives on in your work, in our hearts, and in every life you touched.

    You will be deeply missed.
